today i decided to install cachyos, tested some games and everything is good, but there’s one massive problem, and that is steam, for some reason its download speed is EXTREMELY slow, i tested lots of things, changing the dns, ip, clearing download cache, disabling and enabling HTTP2 on steam, tried downloading steam from flathub, but nothing works, interestingly launching steam from firefox for some reason fixes this? but the OS treats it as if it was tied to firefox, instead of being standalone steam, does someone know how to fix this?
Hello and welcome. That are several threads on this topic already, and one seems to be solved.
I wish I could help more, but my internet is 35Mbps at best, so my downloads are always slow. ![]()
Treats Steam as if it was tied to Firefox? Sounds…odd.
Did you install the CachyOS Gaming Meta? If not, maybe try removing whatever Steam installs/fltapack you have now and run that.
sudo pacman -S cachyos-gaming-meta
More details can be found here: Gaming with CachyOS Guide | CachyOS
When I first installed CachyOS, I used the Gaming Meta and was pretty much set up for gaming. My connection is 1.2G and Steam downloads are typically pegged at ~1.1G the entire time.
How do you even achieve this?
i used the steam://open/console command on firefox, that makes the os treat steam as something linked to firefox instead of a standalone app
i uninstalled the flatpack steam, did this and no luck either, it’s annoying because its a steam issue, when i download something from firefox i get my full speed (40 MB/s) but whenever i download something from steam it peaks at 25MB/s, maintains that speed for some time and then gets unstable dropping to 10MB/s and going as low as 500KB/s
