TLDR: PC shuts off requiring a full PSU reset after trying to launch CS2. Hardware wise everything is fine validated in Mint and Windows. Nvidia GPU.
New to cachy and arch based distros. I must say I was amazed with the install experience, everything kind of worked when usually with Nvidia, I expect to tweak things here and there for stuff to just work..
Now I got everything setup and the weirdest thing is happening. Launching CS2 in steam, right after the loading screen, my entire PC hard shuts off. I have to reset my psu to even turn it back on suggesting some sort of over-current protection from either my mobo or psu is kicking in.
Things I’ve tried without any results:
Checking journalctl → there is a gap of logs before the pc turns off, before it its logs of unrelated issues like steam overlay etc..
Changing from linux-cachyos 6.16.3-2 kernel to linux-cachyos-rc 6.17.rc3-1
Changing wall outlets to one straight from the wall instead of power bar
Hitting the system with full OCCT power load (pulled over 350w) in windows dual boot (separate drive)
Messing with CS2 launch options like -fullscreen +fps_max 240
Resetting my CPU PBO undervolt in bios back to stock
Tested lto, rc, and stable kernels
Relevant specs:
Ryzen 5600x
Nvidia 3080
32gb ram
ASUS ROG Strix 750w Gold PSU
KDE Plasma 6.4.4
KWin (Wayland)
NVIDIA-SMI 580.76.05 (installed by default)

is it only in cs2? have you tried lts(or lto) kernel? maybe check shaders option in steam? different driver version, scheduler, proton versions? steam overlay disable?
Theres definetly something going on with the GPU pulling way too much current. I started up another game (PEAK) with vulkan shaders and it actually survived the menus for a good 20 seconds or so before shutting off. Before it shut off, I heard MASSIVE COIL WHINE from the GPU.
That was with the lto kernel as well just to try something else. Also shader precaching is disabled in steam and both of said games are linux compatible out-the-box so no need for proton etc..
Reduced coil whine drastically, better performance, less power draw.
It’s 200 watts stock, but the fixed 2850 mhz creates a more stable experience, because it has more room for power, and the 250 offset makes it so at 2850 mhz it uses voltage as if it was at 2600 mhz.
I found 250 stable for 4070, as more than 300 crashes. The more - the better; so test. It’s a similar experience to msi afterburner on windows.
PS: If I’m not mistaken 3000 nvidia series are prone to overheating because of vram? May this be your issue. Try downclocking vram and see temperatures.
