Keyring issue during install - Doesn't look good for new users

Another keyring issue during install, causing the install to fail. This is on a brand new download of the latest installer. And tried at around 2am in the morning eastern time U.S. Seems that this is a regular issue that seemingly can’t be reproduced, which is baffling. Because the installer just keeps failing until I apply this fix:

And then the install went through without issue. There are tons of new people trying to get away from Windows. And CachyOS is one of the best, if not THE best distros for gaming. If someone goes to install this and gets a simple issue like this and the install fails, guess where the majority of them are going? Somewhere where the installer works correctly.

While I did google it and applied the fix above to get past the error and successfully install, many/most will not take the time or the effort. They will think “CachyOS sucks if I can’t install” and move on without another thought. First impressions are the best impression!

When I tried to install CachyOS the first time, it happened to me too. I restarted the installation and it worked without any problem. I hate to reinstall CachyOS because I messed up messing around and reinstallation process did not show the same problem. This is a problem if it so happens that it can just come out of nowhere and ruin installation process. It is worse if it happens to a first timer. CachyOS is superior to the other gaming desktop distros but if this happens to even one out of ten new comers, it leaves a bad impression and word of mouth problem.

The reason this still hasn’t been fixed is we don’t know exactly why it’s reproducing and error message doesn’t provide enough information about it. However, I made another attempt to revisit this issue again:

No ETA yet on when there will be a new calamares update with this change.

I just can’t get it past 12%, when it has to create pacman keyring and fails to finish in 30 seconds. This workaround didn’t help. Tried 3 different USB drives, redownloaded fresh ISO many times, different bootable drive makers, changed to a different wireless connection, tried with a cable connection, changed DNS, secure boot is off, tried systemd, grub, all of them, tried a bunch of other things I found online. Tried several times a month ago and then several more again last night.

It just refuses to install on this HP laptop with Nvidia graphics.

Think I’ll just give up.

Edit: Tried one last time with:

sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring

sudo pacman-key --populate

Nope.

Those commands also didn’t work for me. I changed them a little bit just because, and surprisingly it worked. Here’s what I did:

sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring cachyos-keyring

sudo pacman-key --populate

sudo pacman -Syy

This did fail on one attempt for me, so you might have to try one or two times. It seems like the error is just a random thing, but at least this worked for me the 2/3 times I tried.

Seriously, don’t give up on CachyOS; of all the Linux distros I’ve tried, I think this one’s the best!

Same issue here, been trying for 3 hours to fix this…

I noticed that after a failed install attempt, my Wifi would appear to not connect to the internet (or so CachyOS told me)

Now i kid you not, the fix for the 12% hardstuck was:

Turning off and on my Wifi (symbol on the laptop) while at the 12%

somehow the internet connection to fetch the keyring worked

maybe this will help someone

They should focus more on this keyring issues more cause most of the times, this is my problem when installing application in pacman or yay.

Edit: By the way, I think I just found a way to fix this issue while trying to solve it writing on this forum just right now. I tried sudo cachyos-rate-mirrors then after that, I use this sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring cachyos-keyring and it solved my problem with this keyring issue. I dunno if it is the way to fix it but yeah I’ll try this again when I encounter this issue again. If it is really the issue, they should update their ‘Reset keyrings’ function button in their CachyOS Hello application.
