Hi,
i bought a new Laptop ( AMD Ryzen™ AI 7 350 ) and try to install CachyOS at it.
The live Stytem is booting and shows the welcome screen. After starting the installation the process freezes at differnt stages.
The earliest freeze i got immediately after the selection of the boot manager, the latest at the hdd settings, - and several times between thiss points. In total i startet the installation more the 10 times now.
Does anyone have a suggestion what I could try / why it happens ?
Edit: The Laptop has a secound hdd (if it is to know) and CachyOS i downloadet today morning.
Hi all,
I’m a little sad…
After countless attempts, using different USB sticks and downloading the image multiple times (including checksum verification), the result remains the same: CachyOS just won’t install on this laptop!
As mentioned above, the problem is that the system freezes during installation and can only be revived with a hardware reset.
With a heavy heart, I’ve now gone back to Tumbleweed for the time being…
I guess we share the same issue in this case… unfortunetly i found this thread to late.
It seems to be a general problem with the amd rhyzen ai chip with the cachy kernel.
I am aware of the small amount of users which are affected, but it would great to solve this “bug” in the Cachy Kernel.
I would guess that it is related to the Cachy Kernel, because EndeavourOS with KDE is running without such problems.
Thats my thread:
You could try whether the kernel parameter “amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x12” helps you.
For me it did not worked out

Hi guy’s,
in my mind it is only the kernel used with calamares installer. Atm the Laptop works with Opensuse and i wait for the next update of the installer…
After using the boot option “nomodeset” (the secoud line at the boot menue, i don’t recognize it before because the letters are very small at 16” monitor with a resolution off 2880x1600) the installation run without freezing for several times (for several because a different prob occures, but for that i’ll start a own thread).
I was suffering freezes with a Ryzen AI 7 350 laptop (HP) and the live CD installer 250828 until I tried without scaling. Then I could end the installation without any freeze. The only thing that I’ve tried was changing the default char size in the KDE global settings, although the font size of the installer was quite small.
