Heyo, got a very weird issue as i mentioned in the title.
Running an RX 5600 XT and after trying to run Dead Rising 2, it froze and my GPU started to reconnecting repeatedly with artifacts
I’m not getting this issue after disabling it but i’ve seen a 1:1 case here:
tbh i didn’t see anything weird from the log especially for the gpu side
but i do notice you enable the overclocking in LACT
cachyos kernel: amdgpu: Overdrive is enabled, please disable it before reporting any bugs unrelated to overdrive.
idk if this help, but maybe try change the automatic to highest for now ?
in case LACT detecting wrong speed frequency like RDNA4
if you use this option and it’s working, another advice is
create another profile, with highest clock performance mode, for those game only / affected app, and keep the default profile to automatic (since i think, it’s rare to get clock higher if it’s not 3D application)
OR, have you try adding this on your boot param (if this was the mesa / lact fault)
man, i clearly said, idk if this help and incase LACT detecting wrong speed freq tho,?
also is limiting the clock to the stock freq (without boosting ofc) is really unsafe to you ?
tbh, i do prefer it that way instead potentially bricking the gpu, because of artifact (if it’s boosting the clock higher than the current spec), or even other HW because you in the end need to do hard reset your pc
preventive is better than cry later ?
and also, i offered multiple way, to debugging the problem tbh
but you are still offering the same bad advice after being told it is not safe / good / recommended / appropriate for every card. You are potentially crippling other people’s GPUs by suggesting Highest.
Adding “idk” does not change anything - it is bad general advice.
Hmmm… crippling because LACT will force the gpu to always use the highest stock clock?
If yes, i already edited my post (in here), to make a profile instead, so its only targetted specific apps, but i do still stand with preventive is better than cry later
Tho the best way for preventive is just uninstall LACT all together, since OP says its fine without LACT..
Ah, I see. You have failed to understand what I explained. Let me try again:
On some cards, setting Highest performance in LACT causes the card to be limited to highest BASE clock, thereby not allowing it to reach BOOST clock. Therefore, you are CRIPPLING the performance of the GPU.
Limiting the freq to stock highest (without boost clock ofc) is still safer way, to avoid potentially bricking your GPU, if it was forcing the GPU clock out of its spec, like literally way overclocking than it should be, and it will crash your system, and it might damage your other HW, because sometimes you might need hard reset your system
Isnt that not clear to you?
For me, i better what you said crippling my performance instead bricking my GPU or other HW
Do note, this is in context IF the causes was LACT max freq / boosting freq reading incorrect.
And i do know, each generation might have different way of boosting, with its automatic mode, but again IF THE CAUSE WAS INCORRECT FREQUENCY READING, it might be better to limit it instead risking it crash, even with the expense of those boosting freq
And lastly, yes i do admit it, it will be limiting your maximum performance (if you count the extra boost freq), but atleast i do (hopely) prevent the damage to your GPU, because it’s prevent the GPU to do unstable boost clock via automatic ones
