Yeah you are right. It still occasionally happens and sometimes i have to reboot 4 times before having a stable session. The only thing making me not to go back to Windows is that i barely use my computer currently. Otherwise i would probably have already given up on Cachyos 
Do you use cachyos-snapper-support? The problem started occurring after installing this specific package for me (maybe a coincidence, but maybe not)
Okay, I have now disabled my iGPU in the BIOS settings and set Cachyos/KDE to always start a new session after restarting and not try to restore an old one.
I have now been able to restart twice without any blackscreens or freezes. I sincerely hope that this helped.
I was able to do a CLT+ALT+F2 after it took me to the login screen. It unlocked without the password and has yet to crash. (current session) I also just set the session to start a new session and Ill give that a shot.

Yes, I do use snapper-cachy-support via BTRFS assistant.
I have experienced this issue recently. I do not know the cause, but it happens within a minute of first logging on. The issue happened a lot about 3 months ago and now it’s back again. Is this a Wayland issue?
Same issue, perfectly reproducible:
If I lock the screen then press Switch User, it brings me to a different looking login scren.
From there, if I try to input my password and unlock, it will just freeze.
The workaround is to then press Alt+F2, which will bring me back to the first lock login screen. From there, I can unlock with my password.
It will then show what I think to be the Kde Plasma loading screen after a crash? Rotating gear, will load for like 15 sec, then I’m back in.
Using Alt+F2 also seems to prevent freezing. As said, when I login and it takes more than ~5 seconds for the Desktop to appear, I have a 100% freeze after roughly one minute. If I push alt+f2 before the Desktop appears, this seems to be a 100% fix to prevent a later freeze.
Same problem here in Jan 2026 after performing pacman -Syu and rebooting. Meh. ALT+F2 will switch to another working login screen, but after entering the password the screen freezes again
Interesting thing is that I can still hear the podcast I was listening to in Firefox.
Edit: I was able to get in by switching to a text terminal with CTRL+ALT+F4, saw that only Firefox is taking CPU time, so I killed it. Switching back to a screen with desktop environment worked and I got in without having to login. I’ll try to reproduce this next time it happens. No ideas for the actual reason, though.
I have been having this issue for months now, I update on a weekly basis. It still persists. It doesnt matter if I have an external screen or not. My iGPU (AMD ryzen 9 7845HX) is disabled. I am running on dGPU (RTX 4080 laptop). I did try ctrl + alt + f2, it doesnt do anything. I will try ALT + F2 and CTRL + ALT + F4. When the issue occurs, it occurs multiple times in a row, and after I finally get a usable session, I will not encounter it for days. I don’t see any behaviour triggering it, I can do completely nothing, and it will still lock screen and freeze if I try to log in.
Many users who have reported having this issue (turn on PC, login takes longer than usual, after being logged they forcefully get sent back to SDDM and after inputing the password again the system freezes) got to solve it by changing SDDM for plasma-login. Hi, thanks for the info. I switched to plasma login, will update in a week if the issue does not occur.
I could solve this bug the first time by deleting the cache. Then I tested different cache folders and in the end I prevent the problem by regularly deleting krunner**, plasma** and kioexec cache entries. I have a script that I run every second to third boot to clear the cache.
Nevertheless I got a new bug since beginning of January where my screens turn black. Only hard reset solved this and it happens randomly after hours or minutes.

It looks like this issue is gone since the change to the plasma login manager? I haven’t had a single freeze now in over a week.
It’s been 9 days, no freezes or random locking so far. Also, I haven’t experienced any black screens since (which also required a reboot)
