ZFS licensing issue mentioned on the wiki?

Do not use a Real-time kernel together with ZFS, it’s not compatible due to licensing issues.

What licensing issues prevent ZFS from being used with Linux 6.12 (where RT became default) or higher?

RT is not default.

Real time support in the kernel exists but must be opted into at build time. Which is not advised for most workflows anyway due to the performance hit for many tasks.

My bad, I see “RT” is not default, but I read that the RT_PREEMPT changes were merged in 6.12, and the new default is a “voluntary” preempt setting instead of none, while not “full” which is “RT”. In 7.0 I see it’s configured slightly differently, but full RT is not a default either.

Still, the question I had is what prevents ZFS from being used with RT because of the license according to the wiki?
