I’d like to transfer some of my games from Windows Steam, and I’m wondering if they’ll work if my entire partition is on btrfs. I’ve read that this might be a problem, would the games work on an ext4 partition in this situation? Could I split the system partition into another one and set up a separate drive for games on ext4, is that possible?
In most cases I would recommend reinstalling the games.
I don’t understand what you current drive setup is so I can’t advise you on it without more info.
It is possible to copy/paste files from ntfs to other filesystems. Copying games could cause issues with steam however since i don’t know if steam sets up windows specific configs for the games.
Beyond this I will need more details on what exactly you are trying to do with what kind of drive setup you are using.
On one computer, I’m using CachyOS with a single drive that uses the btrfs file system (one partition with system). I’d like to transfer a few games from Windows 10 which uses NTFS to that drive.

But I’m wondering if I can partition my CachyOS to another one which is ext4 and put my Steam games there. I haven’t installed anything on it yet.
It will be fine. I use a single btrfs formatted nvme drive for everything.
When I finally retired the Win11 desktop, I used the game backup feature in Steam, copied those backups to an external drive then restored them to CachyOS using the Steam restore from backup feature. Worked perfectly, if a bit slow.
it will works without issue “if you know what you need to be copied” via direct copy method, just make sure steam is closed (exit) before hand, if you don’t want to use steam backup restore feature
on my case, i always use kind of structure like this (windows side) :
Main steam (non games inside) in D:
games library spread out on many drive, like E, F, G
so in E, F, G there would be SteamLibrary folder, i just need to copy everyhing else inside that (or the entire SteamLibrary folder)
to the target drive (which is my btrfs)
then open the steam on cachy, and add that location as new game library, then restart steam (just in case), and done, let the steam handle everything (if your game has native support of linux, it will auto redownload / update necessary files)
