Wifi status down

First of all, I’m still Linux newbie, switched to cachyos from windows 11 back in November2025, and I learn as I go with doing the stuff, I learned inxi - Fz and lspci commands today:slightly_smiling_face:

The issue when it happened in Past: Reboot did the make it work, it used to happen because of reconnecting of a usb adapter which I replaced, then didn’t face this issue.

Today:
I was doing my work in djv (image sequence viewing software), I have used it before also, this didn’t made my wifi go down, but today after working in it, my wifi goes down, screen froze and capslock key light was blinking. I tried alt sysreq REISUB, then hard shutdown,

I tried to recreate the same situation
It happened again. This time, system was not frozen.
I tried reboot, but got stuck on a loading circle, waited for a few minutes, didn’t reboot, tried alt sysreq REISUB did not work, hard shutdown again.

After logging in, I tried again, it was alright, then I went on and opened browser and a livestream, after a few minutes, wifi goes down again.
Opened konsole, konsole wasn’t showing the ~ >
I waited a minute, did the inxi - Fz
In network wlan0 state: down
Then
Tried shutdown, didn’t work, alt sysreq REISUB also didn’t work again, hard shutdown again.

Then searched on my phone about it and found this in AI’s source, instead of directly jumping to command I read it and followed it carefully

Tried it, didn’t work, then I rebooted cleanly,
Now it doesn’t show wifi from the start itself
I did rescan command said in the webpage, didn’t work,
lspci didn’t show the mediatek wifi card name at all, and inxi - Fz, that wifi status down entry no longer shown at all

I did reboot again, and choose LTS kernel, now the wifi is back
This time I didn’t load djv, just normal konsole inix Fz and lspci to check, it works, but after a few mins back to wifi status down, wifi device does show up in lspci and inxi - Fz, but status down

Apart from the once I mentioned caps lock key blinking at the top, it didn’t blink anytime afterwards

Now I’m Back to wifi status down with LTS kernel, but to me the djv software as a trigger to this seems to me is ruled out.

Wifi did use to disappear when I was on windows 11 way back, a reboot fixed it, but it didn’t happen this often if I remember correctly.

i’m now using lan cable until then.

Right now after 7hrs on LTS kernel
capslock blinked again, did hardshutdown

How it happened:
i had two blender instances open of the same project i’m working, just small variation, then i opened another blender instance, then it lagged, usual lag, until i screen froze with caps blinking.

while on discord support

they said

If you dual boot, make sure Windows's Fast Startup is disabled.

Do a power reset: unplug power, left it unplugged for an hour, hold the power button for 1 minute.

Throw away Mediatek trash and get an Intel AX210.

i replied

sorry i didn't provide more info, i don't do dual boot, and it's a laptop, i have very less control in bios cuz its asus and its a laptop

its an asus tuf a15 2021 FAQ506QM
ryzen 9 5900hx rtx 3060 6gb
32gb ram

and the mediatek card name shows as MEDIATEK Corp. MT7921 802.11ax PCIe Wireless Network Adapter [Filogic 330] in lspci command

I will have to look if i can change it

I’m still not sure if the card can be replaced, is it on back side of cpu,gpu motherboard side?

i tried kernel 7 yesterday, and it was alright, the command which removed my wifi device, the rescan didn’t work when i ran it, but yesterday device was back in lspci

capslock blink just happened 25min ago, and my journal logs had this at the end

Jun 17 14:57:48 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: driver own failed
Jun 17 14:57:49 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: driver own failed
Jun 17 14:57:50 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: Timeout for driver own
Jun 17 14:57:51 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: driver own failed
Jun 17 14:57:52 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: Timeout for driver own
Jun 17 14:57:53 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: driver own failed
Jun 17 14:57:55 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: Timeout for driver own
Jun 17 14:57:56 usercmp kernel: mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: driver own failed

so this mediatek wifi device can cause kernel panic?

i still haven’t able to confirm where the wifi module is on my motherboard,

i want to know if it’s wifi 6 dual band, and does it has bluetooth too? and which version, so i can confirm the specs to buy new module
