All my Steam games work perfectly 100% on my CachyOS.
But it’s been over a year since I’ve played anything outside of Steam, and I want to get back into gaming with games I own that aren’t on Steam. I’d like to know if there’s a new way to do this from within CachyOS.
The first thing I did was:
sudo pacman -S cachyos-gaming-meta
Previously, if I wanted to install a game.exe file, I used Lutris and installed the games from there.
Is Lutris still used for this purpose, or has something new come out in recent years? Does CachyOS have a built-in feature for installing game.exe files?
Lutris does still work for this purpose. If you are comfortable using it, then it would make sense to continue using it
CachyOS has no set Wine front ends so you have the choice between Lutris and the others like it. Applications that come to mind would be:
Lutris lutris
Steam steam
Heroic Games Launcher heroic-games-launcher
Faugus Launcher faugus-launcher
Bottles (AUR)
I’m sure there’s more but those are the five I see regularly mentioned on these forums. Personally, I use Lutris to launch my games. I think it boils down to comfort more than anything when choosing one.
Lutris is fine, Heroic Game Launcher is fine, if it’s just one or two games you might want to just install them with wine or smth, then run them as non-steam games on steam.
Usually when I play non-steam games, like indies i downloaded from itch or something, I will use protontricks-launch to run them via proton.
