My name is Matthew Miller. I’ve known about CachyOS for a little while now, but have not actively pursued it in terms of installing it on any computers I own, other than to install it on an ASUS laptop, and did not remember having a positive experience (don’t remember now what the problem is, probably because of limited hardware functionality [4GB RAM, 64GB storage, Intel integrated graphics]) primarily because I run Slackware as my main distro. However, I decided to try it again because I saw it pop up again in my RSS feed because of a new rolling release. The machine I decided to install it on I use primarily for gaming (AMD FX-8370, 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6700XT), and to my utter surprise, DOOM 2016 (which I have to tweak the hello out of to get to work on Slackware), just worked. I decided to push my luck on another game I purchased some time ago, Monopoly Plus, which has gained notoriety because I could not get it to run, no matter what I tried. I was utterly flabbergasted when, after signing in on Ubisoft’s Connect program, it just launched. I am now (as of 10/01/2024 @ 1:00am) running Monopoly on CachyOS, and lovin’ it. To be sure, CachyOS will remain a mainstay on the gaming rig. Mucho thanks to the developers who have put so much effort into polishing and making CachyOS an awesome distro!
Addendum: I just purchased Monopoly 2024 on Steam, and the same thing applies; it just works. Given that Valve is partnering with Arch for its Steam initiative, perhaps it’s not so surprising after all. Go Arch!
