I am using Cachy OS with an i7 12700K and a 4060ti 16GB on cachyos-v3/linux-cachyos-nvidia-open 6.11.2-5 with wayland and systemd bootloader.
I am experiencing a strange issue during boot:
After one of the recent updates, the problem almost consistently occurs that after logging in on SDDM, the cursor blinks for about 15 seconds before the desktop loads. After about 30 seconds, the screen briefly goes black, and SDDM brings up the login screen again. When I try to log in again, the system crashes to a black screen. If I select shutdown and do a cold boot immediately afterward, it usually works – though not always – right away.
I reinstalled the system yesterday but kept a separate partition for /home that wasn’t formatted. After that, booting worked three times, and I was happy. Now the issue has started again.
No joy here.
Updated this morning, 2024-10-16, restarted and after entering credentials into sddm a long delay occurs, followed by the desktop rendering with all blur effects disabled and after 30 seconds I’m booted back to sddm.
Attempting to log in afterwards results in a black screen.
I noticed an update to nvidia utils within the most recent updates. Anyway restored to a previous snapshot for now.
For reference running a ryzen 9 7950 and a nvidia RTX 4080 super.
So I would say, give the open drivers a try cause Peter recommends them in an older thread. I’m using them and as said after deleting the cachyos-kde-settings the boot problems are gone.
But I have to say I have got another new log in problem:
I have two monitors running different solutions: An Asus with 1920x1080 at 100% as secondary and an AOC 4k at 175% running as primary.
After deleting the kde-setting it is impossible to log in on the secondary. I give my password but nothing happens. The 4k is a little bit slower. The change of the resolution lasts a bit 5 seconds before I can get a picture of SDDM. Then I can log in on the 4k primary…
And another problem has come back again: When the PC goes into standby it is impossible to restart. I only get two black monitors and the PC needs a cold start.
With the SDDM-Wayland it was possible to wake up the PC properly…
