I did a fresh install of cachy os last night. Running KDE desktop.
Primarily mac user so the only way I could describe the problem is that the finder crashed. No wallpaper or “dock”. Right click menus don’t appear on the desktop. I think this has to do with the KDE plasma desktop not functioning. This did happen before the reinstall last night, but I had been toying with themes and thought it was related. Unsure how to troubleshoot, but did follow the instructions of gathering logs. Happy to troubleshoot but don’t know where to start. Thanks for any help.
Hello and welcome,
Are we saying this occurs on a fresh install without any changes made - whether theme or software or configuration?
If changes have been made then what might those be?
I do note some failures around plasma services .. with some mention to root. Which might indicate something odd like signing in as root rather than regular user?
One troubleshooting step thing might be to simply create a new user and sign in to that .. if no problems are encountered then we know something particular to the original account and/or its $HOME is likely to blame.
I installed some software. steam, discord, brave, docker, emacs, filezilla, warpinator, and vlc. and only from the cachyos package installer. I didn’t run it through pacman on my own.
I am unaware if I am logging in as root. I didn’t do anything to change the normal installation.
Seems to be pretty consistent if the computer goes into “deep sleep” and then wakes back up. I did try logging out and logging back in. That seemed to work, but then the computer froze after a bit of time. Thanks for your reply @cscs any other suggestions or logs i can pull?
I did spin up a new user account and after letting it fall asleep it froze when trying to log back in.
Computer locked up after logging in from deep sleep. no mouse movement or response from the keyboard. rebooted and ran a bug report
Would it be at all possible to generate one from during the lockup?
Such as by dropping to TTY?
We could also try to get the previous boot logs, ex;
journalctl -p 3 -xb -1
I did another wipe and reinstall after trying some other distros. I really like cachy. If it happens again I’ll follow the suggestions here.
I after disabling secure boot in my bios, then after the limine boot loader, i was stuck on a black screen with a white circle animation in the middle. I had to manually power down, and ran the boot log command above but got this back
❯ journalctl -p 3 -xb -1
