Vortex Mod Manager

Was just wondering if I can somehow install Vortex Mod Manager. I tried but only get an empty directory when I try to download the file.

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Hello and welcome,

What did you download?

As far as I can tell vortex mod manager is not a linux application.

Hey, Vortex is currently Windows only, but there are a few mod loaders that you can take a look at…

Is my favourite and it also works with NexusMods API, and supports LOOT!

Nexus Mods are developing a mod manager that will work on linux, however I wouldn’t recommend it that much compared to limo. Not yet anyway.

EDIT: So I’ve found this topic on reddit, which claims to have Vortex working with Heroic Launcher on CachyOS, 4 months ago.
I haven’t even thought about that kind of solution, but I will try regardless. If I manage to get it working so should you. I am leaving the link to the topic here.
I will also post a guide IF I manage to get it working.

Just in case you’re interested, I’ve been running Vortex through Heroic succesfully. See the attached screenshot.

The install was pretty straightforward, just downloaded the EXE file and ran the installer through Heroic. Though I’d recommend creating a link in an easily reachable location (e.g. ~/games) so you don’t have to click through a lot of directories when installing mods.

I also did not manage to get Nexus to recognize Vortex since I also have their Linux native Nexus Mods App running (but that only supports CP2077 and Stardew Valley) and it just opens that.

The Heroic properties:

Thank you for your information, I mostly used limo so far.
I will try to install Vortex in a couple of days, and will report back the progress.

Thank you for your help. I got Modorganizer 2 to work, but I’ll try the one you suggested, especially if it’s Native. I am way new to Linux and was using co-pilot to guide me through it all. I gave up on Vortex and the AI suggested Modorganizer2 and that worked without a problem. But it’s using Proton to work, so not sure if that’s a good idea or not.

Also, I’m dual booting trying to learn Linux so I can leave Windows 11 behind. I had no idea how badly they spy on you. Just feels creepy thinking someone’s watching your every move.

I’m heavy into gaming and so far i have FFXIV and Fallout 4 working and working well. I have cyberpunk 2077, but I read that it’s a real pain to get installed and working well. I have the GOG version of Ultimate. but I can buy the Steam version if that makes it easier. lol Sorry for the wall of text.

I got it working with the Limo app, holy crap i’ve been loseing my mind trying to get vortex and loot to work. Thanks man your a god send.

[The trick was actually reading the manual provided on the page and setting everything up correctly who would have guessed]

so do if I want to mod cyberpunk 2077 should I just download the nexus mod api and I read that limo only supports Bethesda games? I wanted to mod Cyberpunk 2077. I have it via Steam and it works great as is, just want a few mods to make it more fun.

Thank you,

Panic

From what I can tell mod managers are not required.

You can just place your mods in the relevant folder.

But if you need a manager I dont see why nexus would not work.

( It exists in the AUR and as an AppImage )

Yeah I had no issues with the Nexus Mods App. It even provides instructions on what to put into Steam launch command and what to install via ProtonTricks.

Just FYI, this is my launch command and a post on ProtonDB:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm=n,b;version=n,b" %command%

And install vcrun2022 and d3dcompiler_47 via ProtonTricks. Generally I am quite pleased with the NMA, though they could be faster with enabling more games. It has been stuck on those two for nearly half a year now.

I’m so new to CachyOS and Linux in general, so ya gui is my life right now. Most of the time I’m afraid I’m going to break Cachy lol. But honestly so far I love CachyOS it’s worked so well for me.

how do i install the nexus mod cross platform app? For some reason ai tells me to do Mod Organizer 2 via winetricks? but the native linux route seems more to my liking.

No worries. To be honest, without the NMA instructions you could probably find a solution by googling but it’s nice to have. Enjoy :slight_smile:

I will just go with the AUR package example;

First just be up to date and have some necessary packages (probably already do):

sudo pacman -Syu git base-devel

Then the actual nexus;

paru -S nexusmods-app-bin

And follow the prompts.
But be aware that paru shows the PKGBUILD by default for review. So after inspection you will need to quit that text view - usually less so just typing Q should quit the viewer and ask for confirmation to continue the build.

did it and installed! Thank you all. I haven’t downloaded any mods yet but the beat goes on :slight_smile: Thank you all again.

FYI to folks using the “Nexus Mods App” for it’s Linux-native nature over Vortex…
Development for that app has officially ended as of this week per…

https://www.nexusmods.com/news/15424

As of the posting, not even so much as support/bug fixes will come moving forward. It appears to just be officially a dead app. Worse, not even a bone was tossed to Linux users in the “FAQ” they compiled from the comments to that article concerning native Linux support coming to Vortex.

So, thank you to the folks who shared about NMM/Vortex via Heroic as that appears to be the “best” path moving forward as of this week.
(I will also toss in that if Wabbajack has a list you are willing to play over a Nexus Collection, there is a Linux layer for Wabbajack called “Jackify” by a GitHub user named Omni that I’ve been using for about 6 weeks without serious issues modding Skyrim AE/SE, Fallout 4 & NV, Cyberpunk & Witcher 3. It does most of the setup of protontricks/winetricks automatically to not only get the modlists downloaded and installed, but also the ModOrganizer2 launcher properly setup to launch via Steam.)

Oh gods I just went through the comments with Linux mentioned… well this is a shame

Ya I am sad that I just can’t get it to work and guess I’ll have to unsub from Nexus Mods until they understand that there are a lot of Linux users out there and that Windows isn’t the only Operating system out there. :frowning:

Yahu, how do you use Jackify? do you happen to have a tutorial for noobs like me that could follow it? I tried the Vortex with Heroic Games I found on Youtube but it didn’t work out, couldn’t get Vortex to even launch let alone anything else. If you see this I hope you can point some of us new people to it or if you are really great at it write one for us :slight_smile: hehe. Hope everyone is having a good month.
