VLC plugin updates, cachy-update is asking me to change luajit to lua. I use obs-studio-browser though, so there's a conflict

I have been using VLC and obs-studio-browser for almost 6 months now, I installed VLC before obs. Today an update released with a bunch of vlc plugins, I guess, one of the plugins is used by OBS, and it conflicts with lua, vs luajit. I’ve tried swapping them, or removing one, but I can’t seem to figure out the right way to do this, without using -Rdd. I can’t update any of the plugins for this update. Any suggestions? I only found this post about it, Obs studio browser conflict package , but didn’t find a fix. Any help would be a blessing, thank you.

i think im experiencing this issue and its preventing arch-update form doing its job:

:: vlc-plugin-lua-3.0.22-1.1 and vlc-plugin-luajit-3.0.21-25 are in conflict. Remove vlc-plugin-luajit? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: removing vlc-plugin-luajit breaks dependency 'vlc-plugin-luajit' required by vlc-luajit

i can fix this myself but i figured id give you the actual error since you asked

edit: yeah the obs-studio-browser package doesnt want to install after these updates;

:: unable to satisfy dependency 'vlc-plugin-lua=3.0.22' required by vlc-gui-qt

i suppose we now wait until the package gets fixed

You will need to remove the vlc-luajit package first;

sudo pacman -R vlc-luajit

sudo pacman -Syu

If you absolutely need vlc-luajit then you will need to rebuild it, probably after some changes, and it is currently flagged as out of date.

If you are referring to the Cachy repo package then most of the same things apply except that you will not be building it yourself and as such can only wait.

Seems like another solution for now might be to try replacing OBS-Studio-Browser with the OBS-Studio-Liberty package until the CachyOS team update the package as it’s an alternate AUR version of OBS that does not rely on this dependency, it sucks but it should hopefully work.

Edit: It does work, we installed OBS-Studio-Liberty and were successfully able to then uninstall vlc-luajit and update our system. So until the OBS-Studio-Browser package is updated I would recommend using this ^^

I had this issue too.

It’s already fixed so just reinstall obs-browser-studio. I personally had very bad experiences with downgrading packages to avoid issues like this so I would recommend waiting like you did

This is the only way to get the System update to Work. But ist not i final solution.

I would say either build the AUR obs-studio-browser package yourself or you must wait.

But that package was updated today so you might want to sort your mirrors or similar.

If I had to give any advice on this, from what I’ve learned, it would be, unless you have no other option, maybe obs-studio doesn’t work for you, because the CEF security is too much? I’d just switch to obs-studio and switch to lua. obs-studio was officially updated to support Browser Sources natively, personally, I can’t use some external plugins, specifically with the Youtuber/Twitch Streamer/Elgato Partner, Nutty(lmao) plugins, the security blocks it from connecting to Streamer.bot(even though obs connects to it). But, obs-studio is recommended over obs-studio-browser now. Unless you have that possible issue. Security.
