A few internet searches may have explained the F key lack of response being Wayland based while playing warframe on Steam.
Any quick patches to fix the F key?
Same game yet clueless as to where to place the blame. Syndicate Medallion pages, often clicking on the page exit button gives no response, and I’ve only found rebooting the game as an option.
Again no idea of where the problem is. Pressing the keyboard window button does open the desktop with the KDE taskbar menu opened. The taskbar icon, again for the same game will not return to the game anymore, it used to.
The game calls for research frequently being a new player, so this isn’t good.
Not huge faults but the restarts and lack of the F key that is used for thanking other players for game blessing and inter-game text communication has been frustrating.
I’m clueless about your game, so this may be a stupid comment, but we should make sure we covered the obvious.
Not really understanding the lack of availability of the F key within the game, can you remap the function to another key? Obviously, the f key is available to the desktop, so it must be a game specific issue and I would say then it should be addressed by the game development crew. I am quite aware that devs tend to ignore such a small slice of their sales as Linux, but still…this seems trivial and fundamental.
Pressing the F key when in chat in the game does not produce an F, it just stops functioning although early this morning it was working. May be that some areas like the trade area effect it as sometimes it does stop after being in that area.
From what I’ve gathered it is something to do with Wayland but thats all I know so far. Dont quote me but X11 may have not had this happening.
I believe I am playing in borderless fullscreen but I’ll check the next time I go Tenno.
Thank you for the replies
Edit, I wasnt in borderless fullscreen, that much is now functioning correctly, stoked, thanks!
I also just returned to the trade area after going borderless fullscreen and the F key is either intermedant or may have been associated to the display change.
I was given a few boosters and tried to reply with an F which responds to the gifter with a thank you but the couple times there was no audible que or clearly defined resoponse the gifter was thanked.
Much better this last short sign in period, thanks again.
Just jinxed again after doing syndicate missions with the left mouse button doing nothing at all. Multifunction keyboard with touchpad couldn’t left click either although both highlight or get a response with the cursor over the reward items.
This is the rewards page for each syndicate where you highlight the items found to claim the reward for them. G502 mouse mapped with Piper although neither left or right button were ever mapped.
This could be the game or Cachy, I honestly do not know.
Well considering that I game (and other things) quite successfully with at least 20 Windows titles played in the last year, i think it’s the game (or your system setup).
I also have never noticed anyone else with a similar complaint (though i can’t say I’d see everything that comes through) in a functional installation.
There are two controllers plugged into the PC, I’ll have to look into a USB strip or something in order to keep them charged. I’ll unplug them during my next gaming session as a test.
I have tried a few cordless keyboards and this issue happens with both of them. After the mentioned “jinx’ all went smooth for a couple of hours today.
In the game properties, try adding this to launch options:
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command%
And also disable Steam Overlay. Also disable any other overlays you may be using.
An input issue like this is usually caused by either an overlay capturing the key, or a global shortcut being triggered and taking focus away from the game, and therefore the game not getting the key event.
You can plug them into the computer to charge them, but you might run into issues with them taking priority for controls for certain games while plugged in. You can experiment to see if it makes a difference for you or not.
Without removing the overlay as mentioned, with the controllers unplugged, I ran into the F key issue as well as being stuck in the syndicates inventory/sell page after the syndicate missions with no left button mouse response.
I did leave a browser window open and minimized so next run the browser will be illuminated.
And after that I’ll try adding the prompt and disabling Steam Overlay, although I think the Overlay is the only reason my controllers are being recognized and translated for use with the games on Steam. Seems I had to turn the overlay on once when the controllers wouldn’t work.
I haven’t played Warframe in a few years (and it was on Windows), but I do remember syndicate mission endings having bugs related to host connections. There were exploits that preyed on quirks of the mission end/reward selection screen and patching those holes was apparently hard. Similarly, there were map glitches with some animations that could drop other players in the mission through various geometry, so again, some janky netcode probably at fault.
It might be worth checking network/ufw logs to see if something’s getting blocked. I could see a scenario where some type of sync handshake is blocked/fragmented/etc.
I mean, it’s Warframe. The general operating mode is probably based on netcode bugs that bug the bugged netcode, which results in a constant state of bugged bugs that happen to work correctly.
Good luck, Tenno. And always remember the most important part of Warframe is to always, ALWAYS ke… Host migration in progress. Please wait…
Just stopping in to thank you all again for the responses and to let you know its as janked as ever.
Another restart, game and PC reboot with an update check this morning as the V key spit a mess of jibberish while in Maroos/trading section as I was trying to set up a sale of items.
Server “migrations…” have made quite a few public four player crews go to the solo player and at some more technecal places in the game.
Im gaining less interest in the game all the time. CachyOS other than a few update SNAFUs in the last year has been pretty solid and that last update glitch was sorted in just a few hours which I found impressive.
I’m taking a break on trying to fix something outside my will at present, there’s more to life.
