I have CachyOS installed and everything looks great, but two days ago I ran into a issue where I click to launch System Settings and I get the Icon on my main panel but the app doesn’t open on the screen. I’ve checked processes in System Monitor and I don’t see anything that looks it applies to System Settings. How do I go about attempting to launch it from Konsole to see if it launches properly or if not what error messages I might get. Thanks
Just just went back into Cachy and now for whatever reason the Stem Settings are launching fine again when for a day and a half they wouldn’t.
yeah, this has been bugged out on kde for arch/cachy for a month+ now 6.1.3 maybe?
You can open them by trying to open “Display Configuration”, or any of the sections of settings (every section of System Settings is in the launcher typeahead), but you can’t open the System Setting directly.
Hopefully gets fixed by the next release, as it is pretty annoying.
(Also, @naim , I tried opening it in the terminal, and there was no output. I checked my system logs, and I see these when trying to launch it:
9/11/24 2:11 AM systemsettings qt.qpa.wayland: eglSwapBuffers failed with 0x300d, surface: 0x0
9/11/24 2:11 AM kwin_wayland kwin_core: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 23295, resource id: 52428908, major code: 129 (SHAPE), minor code: 6 (Input)
And if I try to hover on it in the task bar (to see a preview of it) I get these:
9/11/24 2:11 AM plasmashell error creating screencast "Could not find window id {96f8d954-7dde-4c9e-b154-2bb0a2846c62}"
)
Is this with the X11 session?
No this started under Wayland. I switched to x11 and it was the same.
Are you on an NVIDIA gpu?
I don’t believe this has anything to do with the compositor. Not everything is video card brand related.
I don’t think its compositor related either. I think that it is related to egl-wayland
. There were some fixes in master that I did not cherrypick because there hasn’t been any reports.
I wonder if it has anything to do with this link @CCG
It looks like this can happen if you’re using a broken theme.
Running lookandfeeltool -a org.kde.breezedark.desktop
will reset the theme to Breeze and it should work.
I couldn’t honestly say cause when I launched system settings from Konsol they finally launch but I didn’t get any out put in Konsol like I expected to, So I have no information from Konsol to post that might indicate what was going on. All I can figure is one of the update either deliberately or inadvertently addressed and solved the issue.
@naim I’m running other Arch based distros with the same theme and I have never run into the issue on them. I’m thinking it was bad Plasma file or program, or a 3rd party program that caused the issue. I’m leaning towards 3rd party cause as you know I might install the same apps in the different OS’s but the source for those apps are not all the same.
@naim one question will that command just restore the default Plasma theme? Global, color scheme, etc…? If so maybe it’s the answer I’m looking for for something else. In both the other Distros I have various dialogs that pop up in the middle of the screen, are far larger than what they should be, etc. In Cachy I don’t have that issue. The only difference with Cachy is I installed Vivid-Magna-Dark right off the bat, whereas in the other two OS’s I first had Utterly-Sweet and then Vivid-Dark before deciding I like the Vivid-Magna-Dark best. I’m wonder if one of those two themes are broken cause I had the issue in those two OS’s before I switched them to the same as I have in Cachy.
Well , that sux @CCG , I wonder if it has to do with the theme that you like, & I would suggest you to try the command given by @naim above & see what it does, unless that you tries it already;
lookandfeeltool -a org.kde.breezedark.desktop
From @naim s post above.
Also: Did you have any issues before you changed the themes !
No issues with dialog box placement that I noticed. Like I said the only difference with Cachy and the other two is that I install the Vivid-Magna-Dark and on others, where as the two OS’s I’m having the issue with dialog boxes I had two previous themes I tried out.
Oh, that s weird @CCG
This appears to be tentatively resolved as of upgrading to KDE 6.1.5 today!
(I’ll report back if it starts happening again for some reason into my session, but previously it was reliably refusing to launch.)
