I have an old laptop that runs CachyOS and I was excited last week to see that SVT-AV1 has been upgraded to 2.3.0. I was so excited that I installed CachyOS on a machine that had been running EndeavourOS just to get access to SVT-AV1. However, after the install, I found that SVT-AV1 was still on version 2.2.1. Ug.
I have realized that the issue is that the new machine is a 2013 Mac Pro with an Ivy Bridge processor that cannot use the V3 CachyOS repos. It turns out that my other machine ( an old laptop ) is using the V3 repos and that version 2.3.0 of SVT-AV1 is only in the V3 repos.
How can I get the version of SVT-AV1 that is in the V3 repos and use it on my Ivy Bridge machine? I assume I will need to get a package and build it. I tried several ways of doing that but they all returned version 2.2.1 as well. This is all very frustrating.
I know that I can fire up git and get the source code but I would very much like it still to be a package that can be managed by pacman and / or yay.
Any ideas?
Also, why does CachyOS only update packages in some of the repos? The speed differences of 2.3.0 over 2.2.1 are significant and make a much, much bigger difference than using AVX or not. It is surprising to learn that CachyOS packages differ between architectures like this.
