Today I ran a usual update and then i didn’t really use my desktop but then had a power outage. Since then my cursor is stuttering especially when no window is open. If i have my browser open it doesn’t stutter constantly but still does sometimes. Also if i have only one of my monitors plugged in the monitor keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 5 or so seconds. I’m not quite sure what could cause the problem and it seems to me that there aren’t any people experiencing the same issue, at least I couldn’t find anyone with the same issue. I’m curious if maybe somebody else has this really specific problem and managed to find the root of it. Or any suggestions that might be worth checking out.
Hi, sry to say but due the powerloss it seems some data got lost.
What u can due now is a Filesystem Check and if possible a Repair, Godd luck
It happened to one of my friend, it was the cpu at fault afterward,( Luckily AMD sent another one after he sent it to AMD s US office with the RMA, It was an R9 ). Props to them I must say.
I hate those power outages, of which happens alot where I live sadly.
Hopefully it s something else on your side. Bet that you ll have to do what @Franck suggested above @ssigil6456
Also, what s your hardware & do you use KDE, XFCE, also, it might help out also @ssigil6456
Since then i managed to find that adaptive sync causes this problem. My monitor (msi G255F) does support this feature and had no issue with it before. Turning it off does solve the cursor issue, but not the monitor connectivity.
DE: KDE Plasma 6.23
WM: KWin (Wayland)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB)
MOBO: Asrock Fatal1ty b450 gaming
Im considerably new to linux in general and I managed to solve previous problems for myself but this is just beyond my current knowledge i feel. I am considering a clean reinstall if thats the best way to go, since i only use this pc for gaming.
Glad that you dixed it yourself, you re learning Linux pretty quick @ssigil6456
Keep it on.
Hehe, the same i have too and no such Problems with an Samsung Monitor and an Asus Board. Adapative Sync may an extra may really useless Feature LoL . In all Game Settings there is vSync On - OR - Off so why adaptive Syncing for Monitors …
But good that it wasnt a Filesystem Error. Power Loosing can exactly leading to this, so maybe u think about using Zfs as Filesystem for the Future to be in better standing vs Power Interrupts.
It might also be becuse of QWin &/or Xorg, or X11 in there.
maybe u never know or maybe did the powerloss harm sth else, the mainboard or graphic Carte
You are right adaptive sync is definitely something i can live without. However due to other reasons as well especially because i couldn’t figure out why my monitor kept disconnecting when only using one. I did decided to just do a clean install (this is probably the most beginner friendly solution?). All is working fine now. So it wasn’t hardware damage it seems (luckily).
Thank you all for input and help!!
