Strange update announcement in Shelly

I asked ChatGPT about this:

This suggests that Shelly is currently occasionally working with an inconsistent or outdated package database. `pacman -Syu` synchronizes the databases immediately before the upgrade, whereas Shelly apparently sometimes relies on previously loaded metadata. I would simply: run “Force Database Update” in Shelly Settings → Advanced, then check for updates again. If the phantom update disappears then, the cause is practically confirmed.

Well, at least that update notification is gone for now. I don’t know if that was the cause, but this lousy AI apparently solved the problem…

=> I don’t like AI …

Update 2 hours later: That wasn’t the solution either, pacman-contrib is back in the Shelly update

We actually atomically indicate update options so you can opt out without fully syncing your database which can cause version mismatch issues. It’s a safety feature. You can run shelly and it will show you what it’s going to do before it does it. Or simply close and reopen the ui if the refresh every 5 minutes is too slow.

Thanks for the explanation, but that still doesn’t solve the problem with the notification for the pacman-contrib package update to version 1.13.1-2.1; it keeps showing up even now, after the database update. However, Pacman itself does *not* show it. Sorry, but what exactly is going wrong here?

I’m thinking about ditching this Shelly thing for good. Honestly, I don’t even know what the point of this toy is. Sorry, but it certainly wasn’t down to the SigLevel settings in /etc/pacman.conf.

Crap …

It most certainly is managing sig level interactions. If its not working the way you expect instead of just complaing into the void open a github issue so we can help you.

No one said Shelly was doing otherwise. You can read the thread for context if you want to know why SigLevel settings were mentioned in the first place.

I’m not going to go out of my way to create a GitHub account just for this beta gimmick. That flashy, superficial stuff isn’t worth it to me. Sorry I even started this thread. It can be closed.

sudo pacman -Rns shelly and sudo pacman -Syu forever …

Edit: typo

Shelly is an officially adopted package by CachyOS, so there are plenty of reasons to have discussions about it here on the forums.

I also do not want to create a GitHub account, but only because it is owned by Microsoft.

I feel like pointing it out might seem like I am trying to undercut what you are trying to say, but I just cannot stop looking at that extra l.

Yeah, sorry, a typo.

Unfortunate rude behavior.
