Steam unable to download updates and stuck at 59Hz

Downloaded the latest update today and encountered my first ever real issues with CachyOS since moving to CachyOS about 8 months ago.

  1. I am now unable to download Steam Games and Game/Proton updates. Every attempt says “No internet connection” but I can browse Steam just fine and my computer is online and connected by ethernet.

EDIT1: I was able to fix this by completely deleting the Steam folder and downloading everything all over again.

  2. Instead of defaulting to 165Hz, CachyOS now thinks that my monitor is only capable of 59Hz and it won’t let me change it.

  3. Now that I am playing, I noticed that Audio is cracking a lot. The best way that I can describe it is that it sounds like there’s some form of EMI issue about 2 times every minute.

Hardware: 9850X3D, 4080S, 64GB

Uninstall, delete configs, reinstall?

Asking someone to delete everything and start over doesn’t seem like a reasonable solution to fix a bug caused by an update.

Jesus christ, reinstall Steam.

Sorry, I’m not exactly Linux proficient so the clarification was helpful. Thank you.
Everything has “just worked” up until this point.

That said, closing Steam, opening Konsole, and issuing the command “steam --reset” resolved issue #1

EDIT: Spoke too soon, Steam stopped downloading again.
EDIT2: Deleted the Steam folder and reinstalling Steam fixed it. It’s not good that a CachyOS update broke it but I’m glad I was able to solve at least 1 of the 3 problems.

You are using a rolling release distro, expect things to break.

I have a similar issue. I couldn’t launch or download any games. I switched my default Proton away from Proton Experimental and now everything works except I can’t download Proton Experimental, it says no internet connection. I can still download and launch other games.
