I’m having trouble launching Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Steam.
I keep getting a Fatal Error message: Shader Model 6.7 is not supported by this device! Maximum Shader Model supported is 6.6.
What can I do to get the game to start?
I installed Windows in a virtual machine and launched Microsoft Flight Simulator on Steam there. It works fine. Why?

Good morning, have you tried running the game with Steam + Proton in linux? Or with one of the launchers like Lutris, Faugus, Heroic, etc.? Running it in a virtual machine is probably not the best option. Regards.
Yes, I tried launching the game on Linux Steam using Proton Experimental or Proton GE.
It doesn’t work. Why doesn’t it work in the virtual machine but on Linux?

from what i’ve seen many successfully launch natively with proton, but yes with some launch parameter ofc, also don’t use virtual machine for 3D games, because it’s only emulate the gpu, hence lot of error, unless you do have 2 gpu and 1 gpu is bypassed into the virtual machine, then you can play in there (though the setup for this is quite a pain)
so my advice is go check protondb first, and follow other user did first, since it’s silver rating, so it’s not borked, should be run but with some minor tweak
I want to issue a strong warning about the addictive potential.
I used to fly most of my long-distance trips. While I was flying circuits over Hong Kong, everyone else was splashing around in the local swimming pools and lakes. Then my partner gave me an ultimatum: MSFS or me! One look into my wife’s eyes, one look into the cockpit, and then I pressed power off. It was the right decision!
But I’m not completely cured. I still take off the B 747-400 from the former US airbase and gently caress the treetops with the retracting landing gear… o/t
