Recently, no games have been launching through Steam for me. This “issue” has been going on for about 3 days now… Before that, the games were running without any problems, and it also affects native titles. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? I’ve already tried various Proton versions without success.
I was able to fix the issue by adjusting the launch parameters. The problem seemed to be that the games are stored on an NTFS partition, while Steam is on BTRFS… The following launch parameter worked for me: STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH=/home/funker/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/ %command%
Yes, I want to switch to Linux in the long run and have both systems installed. Most of the games were installed under Windows; CachyOS has only been installed for about 2 weeks.
Cool, I had a very similar setup until I migrated fully. I am not saying this is going to happen but just a gotcha I fell into…
Just be careful if you’re writing to your Windows NTFS partition from Linux. If Windows ever shuts down uncleanly or Fast Startup is enabled, Linux writes can cause NTFS corruption and Windows may fail to boot until repaired.
Its not as scary as it sounds, it just needed a chkdsk but in reverse I could not mount my NTFS partition which gets frustrating until I fixed it. If you ever get weirdness remember this post and come back, I will help with a resolution.
I hope someone replies to this. I have been having issues with the compatdata folder on my ntfs data drive on my laptop for a while now. Just had my No Man’s Sky cloud refuse to sync until I deleted its folder.
Does this option need to be set for each game that is installed to the drive running NTFS or is there a global location. It does seem that anything I install to my Cachyos partition work fine. It is just obviously the games that I have installed on my data nvme which IS shared between my Cachyos and Windows 11 dual boot setup.
Sorry for asking this here. I have seen this answer several areas, but not if I have to do it for each game, or if it is a setting that steam itself or something should be run with.
