Steam Deck LCD, black screen after recent mesa (?) update

hi everyone!!

so a few days ago there was a long-awaited update for steam deck users (cachyos handheld edition) which brings the lib32-gamescope-plus package (soz i cant format rn, im on a phone, forebodingly), among other things there was a -deckify and a -handheld kernel and somethibg else, MAYBE a mesa driver. i say this, because after a reboot cachyos just broke, it doesnt even get to SDDM, or rather, it does but nothing is rendering (?). all i see after plymouth (the spinning loading cachyos thingie-majingie) is a black screen without functional tty’s!!!. fallback kernels dont help. i even have (had) a normal linux kernel (not LTS though unfortunately) which has thr same story. perhaps its a matter of just literally simply updating the system or reinstalling (deleting+installing) SDDM but i cant cos i cant see anything!!!

so uhm yeah thats a situation that may or may not require REINSTALLING the system (again)… unless you guys help… please…

i will troubleshoot tmrw (unless im lazy) and see what i can dig up -_-

Can you provide logs please?
if you are able to get into tty, please run “sudo cachyos-bugreport.sh”

im… im not sure i know how to do it or if its even possible… sorry!

tried -nomodeset to no avail

interestingly, i had a similar problem in NixOS (not to say i know what im doing!) where mesa driver was ALSO updated, EXCEPT for SDDM. that new update introduced something that didnt work with OUTDATED SDDM…

perhaps i should disable the SDDM service (or remove it altogether?)

im gonna google a few things atm…

ooookay. well, i chrooted in from SteamOS, disabled the SDDM service, went back into cachy, opened tty2, installed ly (a TUI desktop manager that i can choose sessions from) and SUCCESSFULLY (albeit temporarily) fixed the problem, at least it is good enough for me

I KNEW it was SDDM all along!
