Steam big picture mode lag while in game

Hi there I’m hoping you all could help me track down an issue im running into. In steam big picture mode, when im in a game, there will be immense lag when i try to use the bpm menu, but it will subside if I exit the game. This is with enable gpu accelerated rendering on. If i turn that off its a less smooth experience, but I can use the menu while in game at least. Not sure how to proceed, any help is appreciated! Let me know if I need to provide more info.

My system is on cachy gnome (50 i believe now) with nvidia open drivers (Driver Version: 595.58.03 CUDA Version: 13.0)

Same happens to me with a 5600G (AMD iGPU), doesn’t happen on gamescope integrated steam (gamescope -e – steam) but it introduces other issues.

Been troubleshooting to fix the slow Steam in-game overlay, but nothing.

what issues were you having with gamescope? thats one thing i have not tried yet.

The Steam gamescope integration seems to be made for embedded sessions not nested ones, so sometimes the whole Steam client will just crash, also in both nested and embedded sessions game recording does not work properly, there are mouse issues too but those can be work around with –force-grab-mouse on gamescope.
And using gamescope with games individually just results in the same slow overlay.
