Sleep on 2020 Intel Macbook Air (MacBookAir9,1)

Hello there!

A few days ago I installed CachyOS (Cosmic Desktop) on my Intel Macbook Air. I managed to get almost everything to work, including Wifi and Bluetooth.

What still doesn’t work is sleep. If I try to get my laptop to sleep it just dies and I have to reboot it after connecting it to power. It’s a bit of a hassle, because with sleep working it would be a perfect laptop (it feels a lot more responsive than my macOS partition and for once it runs on acceptable temperatures and I can even configure the fan however I want).

I found this guide GitHub - deqrocks/apple-bce: Apple BCE (Buffer Copy Engine) with fixed suspend and resume paths · GitHub which (as far as I have understood) it rebuilds/modifies Apple bce (whatever that is) in order for sleep to work properly.

As a fairly basic noob, I would need some help in implementing this. Has anybody done this already or can help me figure it out? I would really love to give my beloved MacBook a proper second life.

Got the same issue. Would like to find the solution as well.

Hey, I actually fixed it: I just followed the guide here: Introduction - t2linux wiki under “Suspend workaround”." It takes a bit to wake up but it’s honestly ok, and works pretty well.

It’s a workaround, though, not a fix.

I guess, I’ll have to stick to that, though, for the time being.

Well, workaround or not, it works: I can reliably put my MacBook to sleep and it wakes up when it open it. I loses around 10% battery overnight, which I find totally acceptable.

Workaround or not, it is better than any solution out there. I couldn’t find anything else that worked other than this. Thank you for suggesting this.

For anyone wondering, I have a Macbook Air 2019, 128 GB, 8 GB RAM.

I think I also found another solution. If you go to your System Settings, and click on Power Management, you can manually tell Cachy to not sleep when closing the lid. Then click Apply, and this will save you so much time from spending in the terminal.

It’ll eat the battery, though.

True, but what other solution is there? Other than using the wiki that was provided, yet this will help with making sure that your laptop doesn’t sleep. Unfortunately, Apple hates their consumers, and the T2 chip is evidence of that.

Same bug here. Hope fix in coming new release +1.
