Slack won't update for a while now

hey all, just at my wits end, cant seem to update slack, even if i remove it and try to install form scratch same error which is this:

not sure what to do i need slack for work so i dont wanna get rid of the old version that still works

This should be a “native snap package”, The flatpak version has version mismatch’s, this on flathub dose a real shitty job on maintain-ing it.

I have been asked to clarify by @cscs Snap is not a Native Arch package.

Or you can tug on that maintainer to to fix it.

BTW I don’t do snaps so someone else needs to assist for that.

It may be said that this is flatpak .. which is foreign.
Its entirely outside of Cachys control.
( And entirely separate/different to any other software running on your system. )

What about SNAP is native?


Is there a reason to be using any of the containerized app things?

slack-desktop is in the AUR (and I am sure there are other packages).

Please read better nothing was said snap is native, the package slack is a native snap package, and not flathub or flatpak.

I quoted you literally saying “native snap package”.

If you mean something else then by all means define it.

This barely qualifies.

Only because of your negation along with repeated contrast can I begin to guess you might mean that the Slack devs produce a SNAP package and therefor its seen as ‘more native packaging’.

But the original sentence does not make this clear and could very well be interpreted as “Flatpak package not native” and “Snap package native” ie “SNAPs are native”.

If you mean what I guess you might mean you should maybe consider different phrasing .. because calling it ‘native snap package’ when you mean something like ‘official’ is going to be endlessly confusing.

Or in this case apparently the flatpak is downloading the snap in order to provide the flatpak.

Do you maybe have some kind of DNS filter? That version downloads here correctly. It could also be a temporary issue or maybe your country making the decisions for you which software sources you are allowed to use.

However, I find it a very strange decision to download a snap version and extract it in a flatpak. But upstream only provides snap or rpm, so there’s that.

I know they tend to mess with VPN’s on updates or D-loading Installers
