I am a vanilla arch user. I have install arch with both manual install and with archinstall in the past. But my question is “would i get any significant performance boost using cachyos if at all?” My cpu only supports x86-64v2. Or should I stick to my current install? What kind of optimizations does it come with?
Probably not. The optimized packages are only compiled for the v3+ repositories while the v1 repositories only contain AUR packages and other custom packages that don’t have any optimizations.
it will bring some more performance because the main boost brings cachyos-settings
If you want V2 you can read this ALHP/ALHP.GO: Go based buildbot to build official Archlinux repos with x86-64 feature levels, -O3 and LTO - ALHP.GO - SomeGit
It is not affiliated with CachyOS.
I’m using ALHP on my desktop pc, it’s been working well, you should try it.
V2. I have v2
Don’t expect big improvements.
Even from v1 to v3 they are not noticeable in daily use.
Incorrect statement, after adding the V3 repositories I notice a huge improvement! I was on pure Arch…
Now it’s more responsive and stable.
4690K, GTX960, 16GB DDR3
i have the same potato system ! and i rlly think i feel the difference but im not sure.
i wanted to share a good upgrade tip :
on ebay, i bought a xeon e3-1240 v3 for 10€ to replace my 4590 that i sold 15€. the difference was totaly there specialy for those games using all the cores. the l3 cache is also slightly biger than the 4690k and it use less energy and run cooler. An all win.
