Aloha, i used Shelly to install some Synths (standalone plus clap- and vst3-plugins).
At first attempt Shelly hung, then after a restart it showed the packages as installed.
When i looked into my clap- and vst3-folders in home, the plugins were not there.
I realized later on that Shelly installed the plugins in folders under usr/lib/.
And the standalone versions were installed under usr/bin.
Unfortunately Shelly didn’t update the Application Menu in KDE (Re-Installing the standalones didn’t change a thing).
Might this be a bug? Or does the problem lie with the standalones, like e.g ob-xf or ot-urchin?
Also i wonder if there is a way to make Shelly install clap- and vst-plugins into the corresponding folders in my home-directory (i’d like to have them all in one place)?
Pacman (and therefor any marginally reasonable Arch/Cachy package manager should do the same) will never touch your $HOME.
You can install the other ones through pacman or I suppose you could do the opposite and remove the pacman packages and replace with foreign/local versions. Though I generally would not recommend avoiding official packages.
When having trouble with installing packages, it’s best to be specific, name names. Which packages and from where. The fewer guesses us other users have to make the better the answer could be provided.
I had the same response - vst-plugins is a package group (which includes ob-urchin-vst3 and ob-xf-vst3 so I assume that is what OP meant. I was just assuming the other package is probably clap
It sounds like they installed to the right place. The plugin I randomly checked did have a .Desktop file in the package list. I think that communicating the right expectation (“this is where pacman puts things”) and seeing if just a reboot etc. makes things show up in the menus is probably the best we can do for now.
My expectation where to find the plugins was based on the previous use of dedicated plugin installers, which indeed had put them into $HOME/.clap and $HOME/.vst3.
I wasn’t aware that this is not what our package managers do. My bad …
Still the KDE-Application Menu didn’t get updated.
Neither after rebooting nor after trying “xdg-desktop-menu forceupdate” .
So i just added the entries myself …
P.S.: Looks like for KDE “kbuildsycoca5” should have worked (instead of xdg-desktop-menu forceupdate), will try this command the next time …*-)
