My question is, will there be drivers for the RTX 5080 on Linux at launch? I’m thinking about getting one and using it on Cachyos
Yes there will be. In fact, we have those drivers right now :). You can find them here. These are not officially released yet so it won’t be in repositories anytime soon.
I just tried this out, but it didnt work. There was a bunch of crashes.
Always reached SDDM login screen, but got no further.
In X11, it crashed back to the SDDM login screen.
In Wayland, it stayed in a empty _
on the screen blinking.
Found the cause. I had this __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia
set into /etc/environment
By removing, the issue was resolved.
Just tried to fix ULMB2 issue, but it didnt work.
Any idea on this? @naim
I have no idea, it’s an unreleased driver so they will probably ignore these issues until the official graphics drivers are released.
Does it take a long time for these official drivers to arrive on Cachyos? I really want a 5080 but I really like Cachyos and I wanted it right away.
Good catch. I got a bunch of those for nvidia/wayland support in /etc/environment as well.
The drivers will release at the same day of the 50 series release, but that driver will still be beta. However, initial testing with the unreleased driver showed some pretty good results so maybe we could push it earlier than usual.
Hi. After switch the GPU from nvidia rtx 3080 to rtx 5080 I get following error and startup of Cachyos failed:
The nvidia driver (closed) is on latest version.
How could I fix this error?
Thanks in advance.
I fix the problem by switch to nvidia open:
sudo pacman -Syu linux-cachyos-nvidia-open
Yes, the 50 series only supports the open module drivers. You can’t use the closed modules.
