Hi there,
long time Linux user from here. I’ve been using Debian or it’s derivates for over two decades by now
I got hooked on Debian a long time ago but over time got annoyed by it’s bureaucracy and ideology (I like OSS, but don’t mind a bit of proprietary software here and there). Ubuntu was a little bit better and did work fine for a few years, but lately it started to become more and more annoying as well.
When I switched to Ubuntu it was (one of) the best platforms to use Steam on Linux but recently I was having more and more trouble with it and instead used a dual-boot setup where I would work under Linux and use Windows for gaming only. Until I got my hands on a Steam Deck I didn’t realize how well gaming was supported on Linux.
The Steam Deck changed everything for me and once I realized it runs on top of an ArchLinux derivate I quickly ended up with Cachy.
And what can I say? I’m deeply impressed how fast and easy it is. At first I had to reinstall two or three times because GRUB would always fail to decrypt my drive after a few restarts. I should have been able to figure out why, but I was lazy and just switched to systemd-boot. And that was a great decision. Now my system boots at least twice as fast as before
And all the games I’ve tried so far run at least as good as on Windows.
Thank you very much!
