Random freezes since linux-cachyos 7.0.3-1 upgrade (Nvidia Open 595.71.05)

Since upgrading to linux-cachyos 7.0.3-1 on May 3rd, my system freezes randomly.. during use and during idle. Hard reset required. Rolling back to linux-cachyos-lts 6.18.26 resolved the issue.

Symptoms:

  • Complete system freeze, no recovery possible

  • Occurs randomly, during use or idle

  • journalctl shows SATA link drops (ata5/6/7 down, ata8 up) correlated with freeze moments

  • No Xid errors found in journalctl, but the freeze correlates with the simultaneous kernel + nvidia-open driver update. Nvidia Open 595.71.05 on kernel 7.0.3 is suspected.

Timeline:

  • Update on 2026-05-03 15:22: linux-cachyos 7.0.2-2 → 7.0.3-1 + linux-cachyos-nvidia-open 7.0.2-2 → 7.0.3-1

  • First problematic boot: 2026-05-03 15:24

  • Workaround: booting linux-cachyos-lts 6.18.26 → no freezes observed

I have the same issue, very random complete freezes since new kernel update with wayland and nvidia. I am happy to provide any detailed system information if that helps anyone.

Same issue since I upgraded in early March. In my case the USB connection gets dropped, since I installed CachyOS on a external SSD. If I wait 1-2 Minutes the OS recovers most of the time, sometimes only a hard reset helps.

I’ve been experiencing the same issue, random freezing and requiring hard reboot, even in LTS kernel. here is my cachyos-bugreport.sh report https://paste.cachyos.org/p/7074485.log

System:

  • Distro: CachyOS (Arch-based)

  • Kernels tested: 7.0.10-1-cachyos and 6.18.33-1-cachyos-lts — crash occurs on both

  • Desktop: COSMIC (cosmic-comp 1:1.0.13-1.1)

  • GPU (primary/display): AMD Radeon 680M (Rembrandt, RDNA2 iGPU) — amdgpu driver

  • GPU (secondary, unused for display): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 — nvidia 595.71.05

  • Mesa: 2:26.1.1-1 (CachyOS build)

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS

  • Machine: HP Victus 15-fb1xxx
