I accept that Trust Level 3 (TL3) has been suspended in this forum. But I’d like to know the reason for this measure.
Did I miss something?

Because a user with this trust level edited another users title without advising they would do so
Think of it this way
You wrote a letter to your wife
A stranger changed the title of the letter to your wife without letting you know
Now your wife has a letter with a title written by a stranger
Even if the strangers intentions were good by changing this title
These are no longer your words, they are a strangers words
The responsibility to change someones title should be given to someone that can think outside of one dimension
And communicate to users what intentions they have for this type of action
I’m not aware of any other restrictions imposed but that’s pretty much it
This sounds like collective punishment; you could even call it guilt by association (Please forgive me for using that expression).
I think this one user has learned his lesson and will never again change a meaningless thread title to a meaningful one without prior notice or explanation.
None of the TL3 privileges work for regular users.
This is not a complaint, merely an observation.
It is a collective restriction, yes. If you see this as a collective punishment that is not it’s intention.
However meaningfull or meaningless the words are. The action of editing a users words is a responsibility the team has decided to assign members instead of using an automated forum system.
I’m the guilty one and I feel pretty bad about all TL3 users having lost their privileges because of this.
It’s such a pity that since then nobody of TL3 can move other’s posts into the “correct” category any more. Because now, “General” is again full of posts that belong to “I&A” and to be honest, I can’t ask everybody to please move their post, this is way too time consuming.
Isn’t there a way to configure the permissions a little more granular? I surely learned my lesson and the user in question rage-quit already, so maybe we can rethink the strategy again?
I love this forum and I’d really just like to help in any way I can (which, given my current rudimentary Linux knowledge, is basically by just doing these little tidying tasks or answering newbie questions).
Will have to wait and see what the admins can do, it’s out of my hands, just a messenger.
Pathetic but true.
I’m starting to get the feeling that this forum could really need a little more active guidance by the admins and moderators.
Maybe start by making transparent
I mean it’s fine to have community guidelines, but when they are not enforced in the least - like the whole “Keep it Tidy” paragraph is correct but not actively encouraged - I doubt their helpfulness.
Hello,
I gave you “Level 4” permission so that you can modifiy/close specific topics now and more. Were also looking in improving the mod situation.
Yeah sorry some of us are not as active here as you regular users, assigning people of trust is also tough for me at least. I don’t spend enough time here to analyze everyone’s behavior.
I’ll close this and lock it off for now, reach out in moderator messages if anything comes up
