I have this question because after updating my system, in Steam i only have to select now “proton-cachyos-10.0-20260101 (steam linux runtime)” instead i have the choice for “…. 0101 (native)
Is it okay so or do i have to reinstall over “Hello” the “Gaming packages” ?
You can still use proton-cachyos if you want - it has become an orphan because its no longer part of the cachyos-gaming-meta meta package.
To continue using `proton-cachyos I suggest marking it as explicitly installed;
sudo pacman -D --asexplicit proton-cachyos
If you are using the cachyos-gaming-meta package it should have already provided proton-cachyos-slr so you should be able to remove proton-cachyos if desired.
Do you have any information regarding the difference between proton-cachyos-slr and proton-cachyos. From my understanding slr is optimized to work better with the steam-runtime. Is that correct and if so are there any differences between the proton-cachyos-native and *proton-cachyos (steam linux runtime) (*packages inside steams compatibility selection)
I worded that badly. I was referring to the specific versions inside the compatibility selection inside steam.
But I got my answer from the link provided by @cscs
My bad for not reading it through to the end.
In that other thread the Cachy team member explained that while the former proton-cachyos is more ‘native’ and may provide a small performance boost - I quote “single digit percent if any at all” - it is also noticeably less stable for a non-negligible number of setups.
They also suggest you may try both and make your own decision.
But that was the reason for the change of default.
Oh you got it. Well. Its fine its repeated here anyways.
