These days, some of us are using CachyOS for DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) use. Think “music production” on CachyOS, for example.
If you happen to have run some tests of either improved MIDI latency or improved track count or improved effect module count, then please let us others know what your methodology was and what the results were.
It could be cool to know these things (academically).
Personally, I tried to measure the differences between kernels, but it was a rather informal test and I didn’t save my results. I was able to switch to a more effective kernel however and slightly improve my DAW experience in general (more effects).
In particular, I’m not sure how to test maximum number of playback tracks. It seems like it would be easy to test. However, when I tried duplicating WAV tracks in REAPER, for some reason it uses internal logic to emulate the duplication instead of actually duplicating the tracks. I know this from checking the project folder contents and seeing NO EXTRA WAV FILES PER DUPLICATION(!) So apparently, within Reaper, it’s not as easy to test. I suppose I could duplicate the WAV files at the file manager level, but that seems kinda tedious, or maybe I’m just lazy…
Anyhow, I’m curious about your DAW experiences, even if you’re using other than REAPER. Even if you’re using FL Studio in WINE, let us know how you squeezed out more performance if you did.
