Pin Octopi to Taskbar by default when first installing CachyOS

I really love CachyOS but I have one piece of feedback to make the first impressions a little better. Can we pin the package manager to the taskbar? I assume that Octopi is the main package manager for Cachy since it is the only one that can get every package and not just the basic ones, however it is buried in menus and I did not even know it existed when I first installed it. I think it would be a smoother experience.

I run KDE so I am unsure if this is a thing in the other desktop environments.

Moin,

Why?

What looks like a relief to you means that I have to remove an icon from the taskbar.

When you boot into the new system for the first time, you are offered CachyOS Hello. If you look around there, which I think is important, you will also find the tools for installing software.

After a few days, you can then set up your desktop in the way that suits you best, because that’s the great thing about Linux

And no, Octopi is not the default, because, as in all Arch Linux distributions, it is pacman on the command line.

I don’t use a GUI package manager, I only use paru on the command line.

The way a distribution is installed and the various desktop environments, KDE, Gnome, Mate, etc., are preconfigured is only a suggestion, and after a short period of familiarization, the user adapts it to their needs anyway.

Also, if you want Octopi as the default in the menu bar, then the next one, A and B, or X, no, better Y.

So use the first entry point, take a look around, and then design your desktop environment the way you want it—that’s Linux

With kind regards
Bernd

I agree with @dp20eic.
So far I never felt the need to use a graphical package manager because I can install / remove packages with a simple CLI command and update my system with a single click.

So I think we should not define a “main package manager”, because of many different personal preferences.

Personally I untick octopi along with cachyos-packageinstaller & cachyos-wallpaper during a fresh install as install options because I prefer the terminal for handling my packages and I don’t care for the cachyos-wallpaper’s.

Not everyone want’s octopi on their task bar, heck I don’t even want it installed…

I like to have the Octopi notifier checking every hour for new updates in my task bar.
I use the terminal to install those updates then ofc, the notifier is just to check periodically.
And it’s not rocket science to get it auto started.
