I’ve done a quick web search and couldn’t really find an answer.
With USB 3.2/4.0 devices it seems like the time is ripe to just not have your OS on your drives anymore. Picking up your OS/Environment and just using any computer to run it seems like it should become the norm.
I know other distros do persistent USB Sticks, essentially storing ~ on the stick.
Is that something CachyOS does or a feature that is on the list to be added?
This combined with an app finder (i. E. Steam/Heroic Games Launcher loads and uses your existing NTFS drive, minimal user input) would make it so much easier for people to just try it out without risking anything.
Most people have never installed Windows, let alone Linux. Giving them the option to run everything from a stick for months or years gives them the trust in CachyOS they need to switch.
Taking all your applications (on the stick) and documents etc. with you to a netcafé or similar would probably be a complete game changer to many people.
Of course cloud solutions exist that work well enough, but there’s no place like 127.0.0.1!
