The nvidia_icd.json file located in "usr/share/vulkan/icd.d has a typo in the api version.
“1.4.312” instead of “1.4.321” which makes it impossible for the Nvidia drivers to communicate with the vulkan icd loader.
Easy fix maybe the CachyOS Devs can push the fix as an update.
Apparently a Vulkan dev has said this is false.
information was passed onto me
Where is your source?
Vulkan Instance Version: 1.4.321
apiVersion = 1.4.312 (4211000)
driverVersion = 580.76.5.0 (2433941824)
I am aware of a mismatch but would like to know more information about it.
I Was troubleshooting for days after the update before finding that.
Games would default to opengl with low performance or not run at all, and brave browser would glitch out and go invisible.
Changing this fixed all of that.
During a web search of my problem one of the possible reasons for the problem was listed as an incorrect api in that file.
I Am by no means an expert and am quite new to linux.
Others have also responded with positive results from that change.
Thanks have passed the info on
After upgrading to 580.76 and before making the modification, I was seeing a severe performance decrease that I thought was at the time caused by the new driver. Also, this must have been happening for a while now because I have noticed performance issues going back a few driver releases but brushed it off as just normal for Nvidia. I can’t believe a little typo can cripple a gpu like this. There should be safeguards against these types of mistakes.
good hopes, but hope needs a base, nvidia need selled to chna ofor beeing quicker and better, shit arrogant cause satured money eyes snakes
I applied this change to the file and rebooted, but unfortunately it doesn’t resolve the issue with Blender freezing immediately when using its Vulkan backend. Maybe someone can confirm on their system.

I can confirm the problem with Blender, even with the changes. After downgrading to 575, it worked again with Vulkan. In addition, under 580, I have the problems already mentioned with significant performance losses in games. For example, AC Shadows no longer starts at all, and Cities Skylines 2 behaves extremely strangely.
