Nightingale Steam help

Hi there,

i have a fresh install of CachyOS on my System.
I have been runnning Xubuntu daily on my uni laptop and decided that I finally want to make the jump on my gaming pc too.

I am trying to get the game “Nightingale” on Steam to run using what the users on ProtonDB recommended (Namely the command recommended by theFisher86). I installed proton-cachyos-11.0-20260429 through pacman. However forcing compatibility on steam doesn’t do anything. The game doesn’t start with neither Proton 9.0-4 nor Hotfix nor Experimental.
When I press Play the game simply Launches for a few seconds before reverting back to “Play”.

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 only works with certain versions of Proton as far as I know, and so I’m a bit confused why you downloaded a version of CachyOS Proton through pacman but in Steam you’re selecting 9.0-4, Hotfix and Experimental? You need to actually set CachyOS Proton in Steam.

It’s also usually worth to just try launching a game without messing with any settings first. Most games work out of the box these days.

In an ironic twist of fate LTT just uploaded this video (time stamped) where one of the guys exactly talked about my problem.
The drive where Nightingale is installed is an NTFS hard drive i still had set up from Windows. I tried running the game directly, which proton doesn’t seem to like.
Formating the drive to ext4 worked and now the game runs without issues

NTFS is a proprietary Microsoft format that only works with Linux because it has been reverse-engineered. It’s not reliable and should not be used to run games or be depended on at all for anything crucial.

I’m not sure how but this really needs to be made more common knowledge.
