I just wanted to thank the devs and give my greetings to the cachyos community.
I think the default setup with limine + BTRFS + snapper is fantastic! Lol its definitely better than the rsync command and rollback steps with the liveos I used to use on vanilla Arch.

I’m on the same boat. Tried Bazzite, then Fedora Kinoite and recently decided to give CachyOS a chance. Read through the wiki, although it seemed a bit scary with all the options, went with the defaults and no hickups, no issues, installation went like a breeze.
Been using for a couple weeks and no issues. Although I enjoyed atomic distros, the ease-of-use of non-atomic is definitely much appreciated especially since I use hardware that don’t get along that well with atomic distros due to driver/daemon installations.
Seems like I will be staying here for the foreseeable future.
I did notice, and very much so appreciated the way you gave me the heads up.
I’ve been around for a few yrs and have experienced not so nice responses and replies.
In my view the community of a distribution is paramount to its success.
Lol I was on vanilla Arch for many years and much preferred struggling in the dark for weeks to work things out on my own than asking any question at all on the forum.
At the same time I do understand the importance of the questioner to have a willingness to learn and be motivated to put in effort to work through problems whilst not being a leech on the community.

Years ago I started out on Arch Linux lol whilst I was learning the basics of terminal navigation. It literally took me 6 months or more to get my laptop up and running with everything working.
I’ve installed vanilla Arch so many times I can do the whole thing from memory without looking at the wiki once.
I appreciate so so so much what the devs at cachyos have done. Take dns for example or snapper. Dns can be configured in many ways and without a teacher can be a world of pain.
For my system backups I used to manually run a rsync command (ext4 filesystem) before and after an update and if I wanted to rollback I’d have to boot from the live iso mount the partitions, chroot into the system and run the same command again in reverse. It worked fine for me but the ease of use with btrfs and snapper is appreciated. And being setup out the box is fantastic.
I hadn’t gotten around to teaching myself about btrfs, subvolumes and snapper.
I do have a question about snapper which after searching the forum I might post regarding rolling back to a previous snapshot which has a different kernel. On the cachyos wiki they say it wont work if there’s a different kernel because the fat32 /boot partition isn’t included in the snapshot of the root filesystem but both Gemini and chat gpt agree that its fine and will work if the Limine bootloader and default partitioning with btrfs + snapper is used.
For gaming and a general purpose distribution I think cachyos is the best. I’m teaching myself Python and I game. This definitely has been my best experience on Linux so far.
