Mullvad VPN outdated version

Hey guys,

I know that CachyOS is repackaging the mullvad-vpn version from Arch’s extra repo that is maintained by the Arch developer Carl Smedstad and that the CachyOS team is quite fast to push the updated version to Cachy’s repos.

However, the current version (2026.1-1) is outdated and the 2026.2 has been released 2 weeks ago.

Does anybody have a guess as to when we might see the update landing on Cachy’s repo?

That’s a question for the maintainer.

I just decided to install mullvad-vpn-bin. Though I also need to install libappindicator (which is an optional dependency) to get Mullvad VPN to show in the system tray. Regardless, I’m now up-to-date.

Thanks for the tip. I decided to uninstall the mullvad-vpn and mullvad-vpn daemon and install the -bin versions from AUR which are updated and appear to be updated at a faster pace. Because the two bin packages can only be installed by importing the original Mullvad code signing key, I think this gives sufficient assurances that the two packages are most likely quite secure. So far so good..!

i don’t understand either the delay some app have a nearly instant update (coming from arch) other take days, for instance kernel are updated less than an hours after, yet mullvad is out of date for more than a day (comparing to arch).

it’s confusing for why some are fast and other aren’t ?
