Mouse and Keyboard Strange Issues

Firstly, hello I am relatively new to CachyOS. Trying to move away from Windows. For the most part I have had minimal to no issues with CachyOS, except for my mouse and keyboard not behaving properly.

What I have noticed is that if I shutdown my PC my keyboard doesn’t turn off, the backlight stays on whereas on Windows it never had a problem. My mouse appears to turn off without problem, however the weird issue I have with my mouse is that if I reboot my PC the mouse goes off and then doesn’t come back on again (keyboard is fine however), I have to unplug my mouse and plug it back in again in order for it to come back.

I have checked (triple checked) all the USB power settings in my motherboard which is a ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI, I have updated to the latest possible BIOS etc, nothing appears to help. I know its not a CachyOS specific issue as I tried other distros e.g. Fedora, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu etc and they all exhibit the same problem.

My mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse Pro and my keyboard is a Keychron Q1 QMK.

I have also tried different USB ports, same issue occurs on all USB ports I try. My other USB based devices have no issues switching off e.g. my USB hub, USB soundcard, bluetooth receiver etc. I am using a KVM Switch which my mouse and keyboard plug into, which I thought might be the culprit but as I said above I have tried all USB ports on my PC and it makes no difference. It appears to only be my mouse and keyboard impacted.

I have googled around and it appears other people in the past have had similar issues to me spanning back years across different distros etc, I have yet to find a solution that works… Please, can anyone help me?

I want to get away from Windows, and while this issue isn’t a big deal as such, its quite irritating to deal with.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

p.s I notice that if I put my PC in standby or sleep, the mouse and keyboard turn off and on without issues. Only when shutdown/restart is when the issues occur.

This might help: AUR (en) - python-intellimouse-ctl-git

Strange, so my keyboard and mouse power down normally now if I plug in directly to the PC (wasn’t before) I have made no changes to my system since posting this (software wise)

Seems the issue is strictly caused by the KVM’s USB hub as everything started to work when I unplugged it from my PC, here is my lsusb with only the KVM attached, along with my mouse and keyboard (all other USB devices are disconnected, not including the USB audio and LED controller as they’re built into the motherboard) -

The issue must be with the Genesys Logic devices in this list? Anyone have any ideas how I can perhaps force these devices to be powered off on a shutdown, it seems as if they do power off when I select sleep but not on shutdown. Whats sleep doing that shutdown isn’t?

I have a B550-F. The keyboard staying on could be linked to this option in the On board device configuration in BIOS. It keeps a limited amount of power on during a shutdown/restart. Also, this keeps the keyboard active so you can turn on the computer with a key press.

My mouse has the same issue, sometimes won’t be detected and appears to be off, Razer Basilisk v3. Although, it happens rather rarely. I will have to unplug it and reinsert it to get it to come on. Keyboard and mouse are hooked up to KVM switch.
