Kernel audio regression 6.10.8+ Audio disabled - Dell XPS 9700

Appears a kernel audio regression was introduced in 6.10.8 and a patch set developed according to :

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=299158

Apparently the patch reversion was added to 6.10.9.arch1 a few hours ago.
Just updated to kernel 6.10.9-2-cachyos and the issue still persists
Any chance we could get this patch set merged into a kernel build?

System Specs:
• Kernel: Linux 6.10.9-2-cachyos
• CPU: Intel Core-i9 10885H
• GPU 1: Intel integrated graphics HD 630
• GPU 2: Nvidia 2600 GTX MaxQ Mobile
• Desktop Environment (DE): KDE Plasma 6.1.4
• Window Manager (WM): KWin (Wayland)

I would try on with the LTS version while waiting for Cachy Kernel version used to be updated @sparcplug

Yeah there’s always reverting to LTS although I’m loathe to lose approximately a year of advancements and improvements, especially with this particular laptop known for excessive heat generation and battery consumption.

Incidentally, after installing, the LTS the kernel is set as the default entry, is there any easy means besides uninstalling and reinstalling the latest kernel afterwards, to set the kernel boot priority?

The patch is approximately 6 lines of code, perhaps compiling the cachyos kernel with the patch applied in the meantime is the best option.

Well , that s the bad part of it sadly @sparcplug

As for the kernels , I also have 2 kernels installed on my desktop, bet that it s easier on how the install gets warmer or not, & on boot time I choose from them, but sometimes I forget so,

I would do so from there till the next update that the teanm will do, hopefully it will fix your sound issues in there.

I’m sure it exists, but I haven’t figured it out myself yet. As a workaround, I use Grub Customizer.

Will add, thank you.

Didn’t know about grub customizer, I’ll give it a shot, cheers!
