KDE Plasma shows black screen after login

Hi

I started to have an issue loging in to on KDE plasma starting on friday. The system boots up normally until the login screen. As soon as I enter my password and hit enter the screen will go black and freeze.

On the KDE forum I found this thread which seems to be related:

This also coincides with the change of the cachyos-kde-settings package on friday.

I also tried troubleshooting steps from the SDDM Arch Wiki to no avail.

Hi together, After the recent Plasma 6.2 Beta update my local sddm did not work anymore, which appears to be a problem when X11 was used for presenting sddm. This is not the session you are logging in, but which display manager sddm will use. After that issue, we have discussed in the team, if its not time to move forward to use sddm with wayland. After some testing we have decided to implement this. With the upcoming “cachyos-kde-settings” update, sddm will use wayland to display the login …

Drawbacks

Some users, with very old NVIDIA cards might have issues using this. But since we anyways do not officially support these, this shouldnt be too much an issue.
We will add in the upcoming days in the wiki an entry how to revert this change and make it persistent.

similar to my KDE kali i had to put x11 not wayland it crashing/freezing on splqsh screen

Hitting the “Apply Plasma Settings” button seems ot have fixed the issue.

Hi,
i have a similar issue:
After login to a wayland session via sddm, i see a black screen with a keyboard cursor blinking in the top left corner. After 10-15 seconds i get to KDE Plasma. But after 20-30 seconds of desktop usage, i would immediately land on the sddm login screen as if i have never logged in. After trying to log in, i get to the same black screen again, but i will not get into KDE Plasma.

I have tried the solution of @hideyoshi7435 but it didn’t help.

All of this happened after a pacman -Syu on 16th of September.

I rolled back my system to a timeshift snapshot from the 11th of September and have no issues anymore. I will wait with updating my system until i see a bug report/fix.

System info:
AMD Ryzen 5600X
NVIDIA 4070Ti on latest CachyOS driver
Kernel: Standard CachyOS

Thanks for all you guys do! Cachy is awesome. (Always make system snapshots before updating )
