Installer package (live environment) request: FWUPD

Hello, just a quick request.

Not only do I use Linux installers to you know, install Linux, I also often use them as a hardware troubleshooting and disk cleanup tool. Specifically I love how CachyOS loads the entire image to ram at boot time. Often part of hardware troubleshooting for me is doing firmware updates via FWUPD even before installing A os. Many ISOs (live environment) include FWUPD for this purpose, is it possible CachyOS could add it? Thanks and love the work you guys have been doing!

I understand that FWUPD is in the cachy repositories, however I’d also love it pre installed in the cachy live environment for quick troubleshooting! Thanks.

I have notes claiming, Starting with the July 2025 update, fwupd was added to the standard KDE Plasma and GNOME ISOs.

What DE are you using?

paru -Qi fwupd ─╯

For as far back as I can remember, the CachyOS isos have only run KDE Plasma.

Are there multiple ISOs? I just grab “desktop edition” and use the bundled internet installer. That ISO does not have FWUPD in it as of 4/26/2026 (today)

Verified with pkgs txt

Sourceforge PKGS txt Cachy 20260426

Not for the Desktop Edition, no.

Did you actually execute this command?

Output from that command in the live environment:

[liveuser@CachyOS ~]$ paru -Qi fwupd
warning: database file for 'cachyos' does not exist (use '-Sy' to download)
warning: database file for 'core' does not exist (use '-Sy' to download)
warning: database file for 'extra' does not exist (use '-Sy' to download)
warning: database file for 'multilib' does not exist (use '-Sy' to download)
error: package 'fwupd' was not found

I haven’t tested this in a live environment, but everything should be there after installation, right?

The thread title and body is specifically referring to fwupd in the live installer.

In a live environment, of course!

Sorry, my mistake.

Added clarifications to help avoid confusion.

you can just install it into the live environment

That wouldn’t have been necessary, since I’m certainly the only one who didn’t get it

Nah. Communication is a two way street and we can always be better. A little clarification never hurts!

I am aware. That’s what I have done in the past. I’d prefer to have it pre installed though!

Oh dear – another blunder. I’m closing the lid now!

Same here….Ooops
