Installer freezes

Hi,

I decided to switch to cachyos and created an installer. After booting the installer starts as expected but after a while it freezes. I tried to figure out if it is something I cahnged but I tried different install media and every time sooner or later the installer freezes over.

First I thought it has been caused by me changing the display scaling to be able to read the inststructions but it seem it just after running for some time it will freeze. I didnt get to a point where my disk is changed or anything is installed so I still have a working system.

I could not find any logs to identify a ‘crash’ or something so I can’t narrow it down more then that it just freezes but I hope one can find a way to fix that.

can you :

Yes, I did. But still the install OS freezes after some time.

can you provide before install

inxi -Fza
sudo parted -l
sudo efibootmgr

can you provide before install ,
open a browser on go on this topic
open a konsole and provide info

inxi -Fza
test -d /sys/firmware/efi && echo efi || echo bios
sudo parted -l
sudo efibootmgr
> inxi -Fza

It was a bit difficult. Everything is extremely small and the kde display scaling does not work on the installer as it should be - only some things are scaled and trying to change settings cuts time short until it freezes. Beside this bug, please consider that not everyone has perfect eyesight and is able to read types smaller than half a millimeter.

try to add latest kernel version 6.17.x

I’m not sure how to mount the install medium and update the kernel. I’m not even sure if the boot medium is persistent. When trying to update it freezes.

the idea is to go in chroot ,
and install on disk others kernels , and try to boot.
you have linux-cachyos , you have also linux-zen and linux ( current arch )

I don’t follow but thanks anyway.

So, I read up on what you seem to suggest. I think one can mount that squashfs image with and overlay to chroot into that and update the kernel. But then I have to update the iso9660 boot image with that changed squashfs image. So I would have to create a new install medium and with that I’m not sure if I find all the necessary steps. I guess you don’t do that all manually when bringing the chachy install image up to date and have a toolset for this regular process? Where would I find that?

Wouldn’t it make sense to update the installer when a bug like this occours instead of making every user to jump through that many loops?

the iso will be updated by the team Dev cachyos ,
and they will use current kernel version.

So, @cscs was so nice to provied a more recent version of the installer but it seems the same thing happens. The desktop is still freezing but I could not find out a cause. I assume its something with the desktop on the install medium since more thing there do not work properly but I can’t say for sure.
