Hi im a casual windows user with Gigabyte Gt 1030 2gb vram, Processor Intel(R) Core™ i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz, 16 gb ram, 465 gb hdd system. As you can tell the specs are really low end which is why i want to switch to cachyOS, so does anyone know how i can fully switch to cachyOS without a usb because I can’t obtain for various reasons. Also the games I play are guilty gear strive, rainbow six siege, overwatch 2, and roblox, are those games compatible with cachyOS. Any guidance is appreciated as i am a newbie with computers lol

Hi,
Actually the first good thing - your GPU is supported by the latest nvidia driver, which would give you an acceptable expierence with nvidia.
Rainbow Six Siege will not work on CachyOS (or any other linux distribution) due the anti cheat and the developers also have declined support for it.
Installing CachyOS requires an usb stick (or DVD).
Okay thanks but will the other games that I mentioned work? Also will switching to cachyOS boost my fps.
does your PC not have a working USB or you don’t have a usb drive?

I’d suggest you install Ventoy, and then a few Linux iso’s suitable for lower spec pc - such as Antix Linux, MX Linux, Linux Lite, as well as major distro including Cachy.
Then you should try these out in live iso mode, and check if the apps and games you want work.
I cringe whenever someone brings up linux lite. It has everything it technically needs to be an excellent system outside of having the worst growing pains out there. They one of few distro’s that I know of, that forces you to have to wipe your disk and install the newest main line entry. You were not allowed to go from the final version 6 release to the version 7 release, it will be the same situation for linux lite 8. There are distro’s that do not have this problem. I tend to point to sparky linux as one of the better lts choices. It is sad that it’s developers are heavily burdened with expenses to maintain it. It is the best debian distro. No debating it. It is generally as user friendly as kubuntu but with a much better selection of software and without the headache that comes with snaps.
Thanks for those details - I am no expert by any means and this is very useful. I have heard of SparkyLinux, its sad to hear that devs are struggling, and I will be recommending it and using it myself now.
Honestly I am not sure if Arch/Cachy without a DE is as nice an experience, my guess is it will be, but its not something I hear of often, as most people using it have powerful hw and if not a DE they tend to be using heavily customized hyprland etc which are actually more resource heavy than KDE. XFCE at least before Plasma 6 was no lighter than KDE while having far less features. So I settled on Plasma for normal usage and Antix, which I really like for their approach, for lower spec hw I have.

What on earth do you have to add to hyprland to make it less lightweight than KDE? While I like KDE it’s hardly the most responsive especially with the recent bugs and stuff they have had. I am guessing the openbox configurations like the one CachyOS comes with are the lowest weight while still being functional. I guess sway or i3 would also be pretty good. I remember i3 using almost no resources before.
I’ve tried Roblox directly in CachyOS as well as in a Windows installation in Boxes virtual machine in CachyOS. Unfortunately Roblox didn’t work. As I understand it, it is because of the anti-cheat. It’s not Linux or CachyOS fault.
Oh,I forgot to mention that I tried to install and play Roblox with Wine, Vinegar and Grapejuice.
Also to install with Wine within Lutris, to no avail.
Yes, Roblox decided to drop support for wine/linux. Its a developer decision and thats it.
Nothing to do with CachyOS.

you can use Areweanticheatyet and ProtonDB to see what games work on linux(or cachyos in this case) here is some games you mentioned note this is from these sources i didnt try some of these
GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- works on linux
rainbow six siege will not work due to the anticheat and the devs denying support
overwatch 2 works on linux
roblox does not work due to the anticheat, and “Hackers” and also roblox blocked wine you need a android emulator to player roblox (example,waydroid,sober its just waydroid with tweaks on top)

I think you can also use pxeboot right??? and a rooted android phone as well.
