I’m thrilled to be here after recently making the switch from Windows. Linux has always intrigued me, and CachyOS has provided the perfect blend of snappy performance and user-friendliness to dive in. I’ve been tinkering with computers since the days of MS-DOS booting from floppy disks, so I’m no stranger to the command line, though I’m always eager to learn more.
I’m passionate about exploring the potential of Linux for content creation and gaming, and I’m particularly interested in optimizing performance on this fantastic OS. You might find me experimenting with different configurations, testing software, and generally pushing the limits of what CachyOS can do. I sometimes fail and get hyper focused on issues die to potential ADHD with a sprinkle of autism but it does feel good when I solve and problem.
I’m also a content creator on YouTube, where I plan to share my Linux journey and create more tutorials, reviews, and general tech content. I’m hoping to use CachyOS to improve my content creation workflow.
Looking forward to engaging with the community and contributing to the growth of CachyOS.
PS You should donate as I don’t even know how something like this is possible for free or how they eat and pay their bills! It blows my mind!
Welcome, Jim! I hear a lot of myself in your post I grew up on a Packard Bell 8088, though I never got past making batch files in terms of hardcore MS-DOS usage. It lasted us until 1999, when my father’s military retirement benefits paid for a web-capable machine for online-based graduate school. It made me a Gen X kid by technology, but a millennial by birth year
I still boot up Battle Chess and HACK (now netHack) occasionally do you still play any old DOS titles?
If so, if you’re using Lutris for your game collection, they have install scripts that can take some old games and installs an open-source engine reimplementation that can help drastically. Nox, Diablo/Hellfire, SW: Dark Forces, and many others have replacement engines for higher resolution and other tweaks that make the experience more modern and easier to work with on modern displays.
Good luck, and enjoy! The forums here are great for asking questions, even if not all that related to CachyOS
Edit to Add: if you’re going to game, go to CachyOS Hello, go to Apps and Tweaks, and hit the button for Install gaming packages. It’ll take all the effort out of an initial gaming setup, as it installs Steam, Heroic, and Lutris, along with CachyOS’ wine-staging for best functionality.
