I tried cachyOS in asus n53s laptop, but it doesn't boot

As the title says, I tried to install cachyOS in an old laptop (asus n53s) but when restarting after the online installation, it hangs with a cursor in the top left corner before to show the desktop.

I guess that the problem is something related to the nvidia drivers (I think it installs 390xx or so), as it boot using this card instead of the intel one.

I bet you selected KDE during installation, and yes most likely Nvidia may be to blame. I have a similar laptop, with similar issues.
Have you tried Gnome? For me it works out of the box.
I’m still trying to solve those graphics issues, did not have enough free time lately.

Thanks for the tip, I will try GNOME or XFCE in a while. Just to comment: I tried to install cachyOS because manjaro did something in the last updates that broke the installation (something also related to old nvidia cards). Also manjaro XFCE failed in the same way that the KDE version.

I tried some other distros, as kubuntu and garuda KDE both work well in my laptop, I just mention this because taking a look to the configuration of kubuntu or garuda for these old laptops can be a way to solve the problem for cachyOS. Unfortunately I’m not very found in linux systems to see a solution for myself.

CachyOS using wayland for sddm. We dont give proper support for these old gpus.

You would need to remove cachyos-kde-settings or untick at the installation time
