Hello, I’m currently using Grub as my bootloader. I installed CachyOS before Limine was added, and I’m honestly curious and want to try it out, but I haven’t been able to find a clean guide anywhere for migrating from Grub to Limine. How can I try out Limine without reinstalling my system?
I saw this, but I wish I could find a better explanation. For example, when I type “Grub” into Shelly, many packages related to Grub appear. There are also multiple packages related to Limine. Besides the main package, I don’t know which side packages to download. Also, my boot space is less than 1 GB, and it’s not possible to change this once the disks are mounted. Is it safe to change disk space using the partition manager with a live boot, for example? That’s why I wrote this hoping to find a more descriptive resource.
Size of the EFI partition is no problem.
I am on the same journey myself, and actualy just rezised my EFI from 1GB to 15GB.
I have an USB stick with Ventoy, conataining a GPARTED iso which I used to move and resize all partitions on my drive in order to resize the EFI partitions which is the first on the disk.
May be VENTOY needs a little explanation?
A fantastic tool for both installation and troubleshooting!
Keep an USB-stick with Ventoy and ISO files for the ARCH, MINT or which distro’s your heart desire together with GPARTED, CloneZilla or may be SystemRescue?
Ventoy is an open-source tool that creates bootable USB drives. Instead of repeatedly formatting a drive to flash a specific ISO, you install Ventoy once and simply drag-and-drop .iso, .img, .wim, or .efi files onto the USB. When plugged in, it presents a boot menu to directly launch the selected OS or utility. [1, 2]
It don’t have closed source binary blob at it’s core anymore?
Not just one…
